Yes, very interesting. This is more or less what I've believed
for some time now; it's nice to see more actual data. I've
never believed there were significant differences in male and
female sexual interest after personally talking to several guys
and girls.

Btw, if women say they have had 2.6 sexual partners publicly
and 4.4 when anonymous, I'm guessing the real figure is more
like 5+ (since no one can be *sure* of anonymity). Whereas
men say 3.7 vs. 4.0. So even if the real figure for men is
over 4, it probably isn't much higher.

So it turns out that women in college have more sexual partners
than men. Well, that also makes perfect sense; women in that
young age group have it much easier than men.

Ahh, poor women, again...

1) Instead of saying "women are liars", they say (~) "women are victim of
social pressure forcing them to report less partners than they've actually
had".

On the contrary, even if this study doesn't show that, it's common
knowledge (always better than hard science, lol!) that men brag about having
15 sexual partners in their life, when actually usually they've had far
less. And what do ppl say? Do they say "Men are victim of social pressure
forcing them to report more sexual partners than they've actually had,
because a man who's only had 1 partner in his life is not a Real Man(tm) " ?
No. They say : "men are liars" (and more : ridiculous and pathetic liars).

2) " The pattern was clearest for behaviors considered less acceptable for
women than men -- like masturbation and enjoying erotica, she adds "

IME, masturbation is not less acceptable for women. I even think that
masturbation is *more* acceptable for women these days. A woman who
masturbates is cool, is trendy. Plus she will say "men are unable to give me
enough pleasure, so I give it to myself". On the contrary, a man who
masturbates is usually considered as pathetic (even though it's not as bad
as before, cause now it's become common knowledge that every guy does it
(which makes it not as less acceptable for men as it could be)). A man who
masturbates is a man who can't even find a gf (I'm talking of college breaks
situation, usual male bragging, and not reality, cause we're just talking
about
social norm here). And it's not cool for a man to answer : "I do it because
girls don't give me as much pleasure as I give to myself".

3) About Viagra : "His Cured, Hers Next?

Well, considering that 60 to 80% of men suffer from premature
ejaculation (source : Dr Martine Joseph-Dietrich, sexologist,
psychosomatoanalyst, hypnosis specialist, president of the Centers of
Therapy), I wouldn't say that "his" is cured. But anytime that women can pop
up to say "we're victims" (and we're jealous, and we want equality), well of
course they jump on the occasion. I prefer the few people who say (~) "Well
when we see how many millions of Viagra pills are sold, we realize how many
men are/were suffering from impotence. Which proves how much of a taboo it
is/was, as apparently (when we compare to the data we had before), men were
terrified of saying they had a problem, and go see a doctor for that" (now
they're able to do it because thanks to Viagra and the power of advertising,
people have started talking about how widespread impotence is (not only in
older men).

Oh, come on, it doesn't say 'victim' anywhere there. It is a fact
that there is more social pressure on women to hide their
sexuality. Just like there is more social pressure on men to hide
the fact they they get sad and cry.

This study neither said that women were liars nor that they were
victims. They just cited social pressure that women face.

Believe me, if there is an article in the Journal of Sex Research
about the opposite stuff, like men hiding that they cry, they'd say
'men face social pressure to hide the fact that they cry'. Journals
(scientific ones) are very 'objective' about stuff like that, at least
in how they phrase things.

If what is bothering you are radical feminists that say that women
face social oppression whereas men are lying bastards, then I
would join you in opposing such a person. But I see no such
target available.

I wish that were more so, since I am 100% in favor of that. But
while in the media there may be some attention about female
masturbation, I still think in general it is not very acceptable. But
hopefully that will change.

There is truth in that, yes. I think society does focus more on
female pleasure these days, as if it is more 'ok' or something.
Guys are more proud about the orgasms they give their girlfriend
then about their own, etc.

Interesting.

If the tables were turned and you had your pick of any hot looking women
fighting for your attention would you pick the fat ugly weird one?

Since majority of men want to impress the women with their sexual
performance, many with no erection problems might be using Viagra.
Many young folks who regularly do drugs have chemical erectile dysfunction
aka "crystal-dick". Ingredients for crystal meth include anhydrous ammonia, a
liquid fertilizer so corrosive it burns the skin; red phosphorous, iodine,
drain cleaner, battery acid, lye, lantern fuel and anti-freeze.
mmmm...yummy. Gosh it cant get more fucked up than that. Crystal enhances one's
sex drive, it can also make it difficult to stay hard ...thats where Viagra
jumps in. I bet the drug dealers might also be selling Viagra. (Darn i shouldnt
have sold my Pfizer (PFE) stocks).

But that isn't turning the tables. Not all women have hot looking
men fighting for their attention.

But, if I *did* have hot looking women fighting over me, I assume
their hotness would be a big factor in who I would actually date,
at least at first. If that is your point, then I agree.

After reading this arcticle I wonder if we could carry out some
"alt.support.shyness" based surveys over a lot of issues?
Problem is how honest are people even in an anonymous environment like
that?

Actually, I don't think that's true in the least. I think all men, and
most women, generally recognize that 99.99 percent of men jack off
routinely - even the ones who get more 'tang than a toilet seat.
Masturbation is considered a pretty neutral activity these days. Every
woman I've been with actually asked me at some point about how often I
choke it.

Well, nearly all the people who haven't answered to my post agree with
me (hey that's called Usenet, I'm used to it now!)

well I must have met the 0,01%, because an ex° asked me if I
masturbated. I said yes. I asked her if she did, she said "no, well one
really got to be desperate to come to such a thing...." (she was talking
both about male and female masturbation)

°I say "an ex" because I'm tired of saying "1st gf" or "2d gf"... doesn't
that sound pretty ridiculous?
