What is a "top post"? Someone on another newsgroup once admonished me
not to top post, but I was not sure what he or she meant by that. I
assume that a top post is a post, such as this current one, where it
is the first post in a thread.

Posting down here is called a bottom post, meaning the reply was placed
below the original post. Top posting is/was considered bad form on usenet.
Not sure why. Top posting does cause the reader to scroll down to read the
bottom of a post before the top, whereas bottom posting better follows the
actual flow of the discourse.

The term "top post" only applies to a reply post. It's when you write
your reply first, and then quote below that.
Some people don't like it, because the text ordering is out of
chronological ordering.
Just curious, how do my posts from Google Groups show up, at the top
or bottom? They are on the bottom to me.
Well, I'm also using Google Groups, and that's how it looks to me.
