I am of the understanding that the lungs filter out excessive elements and
expel them as waste.
My doctor is out of town and I see him one week from now. All I know is that
I received a questionaire to fill out and am being scheduled for a SLEEP
APNEA study. I already am on 3.5Ltr of Oxygen at night.
Any thoughts sincerely appreciated, even suggestions of where on the net I
can look for information.
Sincerely,
R.A. Miller
There is normally a homeostatic balance of CO2 as you mentioned by the lungs
and the kidneys of acid base regulation.
There are many metabolic conditions and primary lung or kidney diseases that
can interfere with that balance.
A pH value taken along with that CO2 level can help explain the origins of
the elevated CO2 in terms of primary or secondary lung function.

Acid base regulation is a complicated but your first description about lung
function was pretty good when it comes to primary lung disease.

It is possible that some of your lung segments are hypoventilated
because of injury from the sarcoidosis.
