Many years ago in another country my wife developed P. in small spots over
her torso. She received various treatments including a tar cream and UV at a
local hospital. Suddenly the P. disappeared and my wife thought the UV did
the trick.

More recently my wife experienced a ruptured aortic aneurysm (which she
survived, obviously) and shortly after she developed P. again but this time
much more severe (large patches over most of her body except face and lower
extremities). By this time we were aware that P. is likely the result of an
over active auto immune system which she does have. The derm tried many
treatments including creams one of which did have an effect but certainly
not a cure.

About one year ago her surgeon recommended that a stent be inserted in a
major artery in her lower abdomen. Following this by about four months she
had a couple of mild strokes from which she is slowly recovering. Her
neurologist prescribed Plavix. Suddenly the P. just went away. There are not
even any marks where some of the worst patches or wounds were to be found.

Has anyone else experienced this spontaneous reversal? I have done some
Google on Plavix and P. without success.

Peter.

I have suffered from psoriasis since 1980 and the only truly effective
treatment in that time has been UV treatment combined with various ointments
and creams. None of the lotions and potions I have tried over the past 29
years have had much effect on their own with the short lived exception of
Exorex back in 2002 but after six months of relief I assume that I built up
a resistance to the active ingredient(s).

However, I am also a Type II diabetic and back in September I stupidly
allowed my insulin levels to go badly out of control and because I ignored
the warning signs I ended up in a diabetic coma in intensive care for over a
week. I also developed septicaemia and a nasty abscess on my buttock which
required surgery and during this time I was receiving huge amounts of
intravenous antibiotics to treat the infection.

After three weeks in hospital my psoriasis had almost completely disappeared
and the psoriatic arthritis which was causing major problems with my left
shoulder before this incident had also alleviated.

After being discharged from hospital I mentioned this to my GP and jokingly
said perhaps I had found "the cure". Far be it from dismissing the idea out
of hand, he stressed the connection between the immune system and psoriasis
and said it was possible that there was a connection. However, he is not a
dermatologist but I am now due to see one at my local NHS hospital in March
because the psoriasis has returned with a vengeance and is at it's worst for
over 5 years. I don't know exactly what I was being pumped full of but have
asked the hospital for details and will discuss my theory with the
consultant At the moment I have become so fed up with the physical
appearance of my psoriasis that I will now seriously consider Methotrexate.
