The salve that Watkins makes is very good, too. I believe it's a form of
carbolated vaseline, but whatever it is, it really works. My kids always
called it Grandpa's Magic Salve because my father used it for everything.

Mil - yes there are lots of good Watkins products and I think you are talking
about the petro-carbo salve, but there is also another one, not sure about the
name that has a picture of a red barn on it that I keep on the nightstand along
with the Icy-blue or blue ice salve. I also use numerous seasonings, spices
and flavor extracts they put out. I always keep two large bottles of vanilla
on hand the regular one and the clear one. They are great in angel food cakes
and in Pizzels (Italian cookie).

I have asked Kioni to send me a catalog. This stuff sounds pretty good, really.
It's the petro carb salve that was Grandpa's Magic Salve, I'm sure. We used
it on the cows when we were milking, too. Things get chapped in the winter
hereabouts.

I've seen you post messages a few times here and have thought one of
these times I'd drop in and say Hi to you. I realize you're from around
Goshen and I get a little nostalgic reading your posts. I was born and
raised in Indiana and moved to Alabama about 2 years ago. So, my roots
are definitely in farm country and I miss it very much. But, felt it
necessary to get out of snow country as it was getting harder and harder
to get around, not to mention the fear of putting my safety at risk.
I was born and raised in Hammond, and after finishing my BS at Ball
State, moved to southern Indiana (Columbus, Seymour, North Vernon) where
I began teaching and lived there until I moved briefly to Hartford City
and then here to Alabama.
So, I'm just another Hoosier at heart, dropping by to say hello.

Hi Mil - just now getting around to reading messages for the weekend. We had
a busy one, but a good one and my husband was sure surprised for his birthday.
Didn't think "women could keep a secret" but my stepdaughter and I sure fixed
him.
Regarding the petro-carbo salve, they have a very small size - maybe 1 oz. that
is great to keep in your purse - comes in handy for all kinds of things when
you have grandkids around that get hurt some way.
Loved your ostrich story. We had Amish neighbors who raised both ostriches
and Llamas - people driving by on the highway always did a double take when
they saw them in the field together.
Gotta run and finish messages as I have to work the remainder of the week
and try to recoup from all the houseguests and excitement we have had.
