I don't have PCOS, so I hope I'm not intruding on your forum, but I DO
have hirsutism (belly and neck, mostly). And hirsutism and its
treatments does seem to be something you discuss here.

I was diagnosed with hirsutism by a GYN/ENDO two years ago who put me
on ortho BCPs. I like being on the Pill, but it has little effect on
the hirsutism. Six months ago, a different GYN put me on Aldactone. It
made me feel somewhat fatigued and a few weeks into taking it, I
experienced vertigo, or something akin to it. I couldn't go to work for
several days because I was so dizzy and lightheaded.
Blood tests indicated that it probably wasn't the Aldactone, but I was
skeptical. I tried it again for a couple weeks and felt tired again.

I haven't taken it since. I've read that flutamide has better results
when mixed with BCPs than aldactone, but I fear similar side effects.

Because my hirsutism is not caused by a serious medical condition, I'm
also considering hair removal therapies like electrolysis or laser hair
removal. I have light skin with dark hairs, so I think I might be a
good candidate for the latter.

Any experiences or advice would be appreciated. Post or email me direct
at ywha...@hotmail.com

Thank you!!

I also had hirsutism pretty badly when I went to a RE on
the east coast. She put me on Aldactone and 6 months later
when I went back she couldn't believe how the hirsutism was
so much better. My current doc won't let me take
Aldactone. He says he doesn't think it is necessary. The
hair is getting worse. My RE had told me I could do
electrolysis, but you have to keep doing it for years. She
herself took electrolysis treatments and had been for
years. It helped her over years. Anyhow, keep us posted
on your progress if you do go for treatment. Good luck!

Are you certain that you do not have PCOS. Just because you don't exhibit all
of the symptoms doesn't mean that you do not have it - remember - this is not a
disease it is a syndrome.

Forget the laser stuff - it works temporarily - not long-term like the adds say
- and you have to keep doing it - just like electrolysis.
Also - there is a potential for burning of your skin - and making it forever
hypersensitive ot the sun. Wish I that I could give you some miracle treatment
- tell you what - if you want to send me your name and personal information -
when I come up with a real hair removal system that lasts and has good results
for the majority - I'll cut you in on the profit - LOL. My daughter (18) has
PCOS and the hair growth is pretty bad - it got even worse when we tried the
laser treatments - which prompted me to think that there was something else
going on - even though these were done in a doctor's office - but, then that
doctor was only looking at the money he was pulling in from these treatments
and didn't really care about the patient or what was going on internally that
would cause the hair growth. She starts taking glucophage tomorrow and is
already on BCP - she was taking aldactone - but didn't see any real change in
the hairgrowth - it stayed about the same. keep visiting this newsgroup -
though - because this is where you will see any new products that come out or
any treatment that works.

They say that hirsutism only affects 2% of the entire female population of the world. Funny that I was in that selected 2%. I used to find my hirsutism so humiliated and stifling. I mean who would like it if people keep pointing out to your facial hair all the time? I suffered with this for over 2 years until I finally decided to take charge. I enrolled for InstaSculpt's Laser Hair Removal Therapy. InstaSculpt was a genuine clinic where the doctors conducted procedures that were hygenic. I saw a reduction in Hair Growth right after 2 sittings. Now I am more confident while talking to people and I don't have to feel scared anymore.
