While it seems to be good broadcasting on television, radio, the net,
newspapers, and trade paperback magazines, hearing what we hear in the
media and reading what we see in different publications may not always
be the best advice for you. Everyone has scenarios that are different
than others. Coming attached to what others have done in the past to
overcome their obstacles may not apply or be beneficial for you. Life
is not a one size fits all experience.
While it seems we all do the same thing each and everyday; we all are
different and need to find the right advice for our own circumstances
and situations. What works for you, may not work for the next person.
We all go through different challenges at different times; yet each
case is different because we are individuals with our own mindset and
we decide on how to handle our own problems. I'm all for following the
advice of others especially people in certain professions and others
who have greater insights and more life experience than me. I'm
limited to whom I'd get advice from though. Being a Christian
sometimes makes this decision easier to a certain degree, but then, by
the same token; it makes it tougher. Think about it; do everyone you
do business with; believe the same way you do? I do attempt to
surround myself with Godly advice. Proverbs 11:14 says "where there is
no counsel the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there
is safety." The bible is very clear on who should give Christians'
counseling.
I can remember when me and my former spouse went to see a
psychotherapist for marriage counseling; this therapist claimed to be
a Christian yet there were no biblical foundation in his counseling at
all. I then told my wife; I was not going back because the therapist
was not telling me anything I already didn't know. And besides that,
he wasn't giving any good advice as well. I quit going because I was
not comfortable with the conversations I had received from him. It's
important you and I get good counseling though from someone who's
realistic and practical. The best type of counseling is from someone
who's going to be frank and honest with you; telling you things you
really rather not hear; but it's for your benefit and it could help
improve your life if you take heed to it. Over the years I have had
good counselors in my life through both professionals and trusted
friends and colleagues. Their impact and advice has helped me become a
better and more mature person.
While it's good to get advice from others; it's more important to work
on ourselves to improve our relationships and lifestyles. Seeking wise
counsel is a must today; when you find yourself in trouble or need
some other opinion rather than your own, be not afraid to get some
help and advice, it will relieve you of your tension and can possibly
help solve your problems rather sooner than later making your life
much more pleasant and balanced. You do not have to experience life
like a "roller-coaster" ride because help is always available. You
just have to ask for it.
