Strange, isn't it? Some users of Stomahesive powders say their packages
(bottles/containers) included the intended purpose and mode of use while others
say that they don't. I wonder if the powder is as reliable as the labeling.

I can understand looking for spirituality in this world, but lets not look
for mystery where none exists. The simple answer is that when Convatec
changed their label to include the information in multiple languages, they
had to move the instructions to the inner flap. Strange? Not.

In addition to your other problems ALL, you can not accept a compliment. What
I meant was that with your persistance and tenacity, you may well accomplish
that which you desire... I aquired some of my "wisdom and knowledge" in the
last year with my new urostomy, and the rest in my 74 yrs on this old planet
earth.

If you have purchased several bottles, Mr. Lastnik, one might wonder why
you were questioning the efficacy of the product or just how to use it.

I have several bottles. I never said I purchased them. By the way, Mr.
Shefield, are you an ostomate?

Okay, Mr. Lastnick, pardon my assumption - you /obtained/ several bottles.
One would presume then, that you know how to use the stomadhesive powder
contained therein...

As someone who has been a longtime subscriber to this newsgroup, you know
darn well that I care for my now 5 year old son who has a colostomy. What
exactly is the point of your presumably leading question?

And Denny said......
Ok, once again I will explain what powders I use and how I use them.
I use two different type's of powder and sometimes mix them together.
one is named Parthenon K-Gum and the other is Derma Guard Karaya
Here are the direction's right off the bottles. (which I don't follow)

Parthenon K-Gum Karaya gum powder.
Distributed by The Parthenon co.inc
3311 west 2400 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84119
Clean and wash area surrounding stoma and pat dry.
moisten affected area with water and spray on powder.
allow to dry for 3-4 minutes. brush away excess.
protective dressing or skin cement may then be applied directly over
the protective covering Karaya powder has formed.
...................
Mentor "Derma-Guard" A protective Karaya powder.
Distributed by Mentor Corp. Santa Barbara, CA 93117
To protect healthy skin
Clean the area and leave the skin damp.
Apply a generous layer of Derma-Guard powder.
...................
To protect irritated skin
After cleansing and drying the skin, dip a Q-tip in water and wet the
irritated area only.
Sprinkle Derma-Guard powder on the dry skin area and then using the
dry end of a Q-tip, carefully and evenly brush a generous layer of
powder onto the wet area.
brush off excess Derma-Guard from the healthy skin and put on the
appliance in the usual fashon with cement.
............
As I said, I don't follow either of these directions at all and
haven't for 37 years. (ileostomy)
I just wipe off the area around the stoma with TP and spray on the
powder and thats it. put the appliance right back on. no waiting for
drying or any of that. I take my appliance off to empty it.
I use no barriers, tape, sticky rings or anything. just the appliance
itself and the power, that's all.
my appliance is a plastic convex ring and uses disposable bags and a
belt. A bag will last about 3-4 weeks and then I change it.
The powder comes in a small bottle type or a one pound bottle which I
use to fill a small spray bottle that I carry in my pocket.
No fuss No muss. no big deal. I have tried all the stuff on the market
that you can get free as samples and none of it suits me at all!
I have a whole big box full of what I term as junk. I don't know why
or how people put up with all that stuff. glue this, cut a hole here,
sticky this, dry this, wet this, tape this, it's crazy to go through
all that stuff. now I just know I will get flamed for my opinion on
ostomy appliances but that's ok. I just keep truckin along with my
method and type of appliance, which by the way will last a lifetime.
They don't wear out.
Denny.
