Oppositional Defiant Disorder and comorbid drug and substance abuse

information regarding ODD and the subsequent frequency of drug and
substance abuse.
I am a student at the University of Alberta who has had personal
experience dealing with ODD (as a teacher aide) and am researching the
co-occurance of drug and substance abuse.
Does anyone have any information or direction they can send me in for
resources? I have searched the library and checked out the internet to
no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ODD is often co-morbid with ADHD, and I believe there is a lot literature
correlating the latter with substance abuse. Just to get an idea of the
hypothesized reasons, see Hallowell and ?, _Driven to Distraction_.
That might give you a thread to start pulling and see where it leads. The
book is well documented.
I'd offer more if I could. I have mainly personal experience, and in our
case, with two children with severe co-morbid ODD and ADHD, one child was
not longer considered ODD once we correctly diagnosed and treated the ADHD.
