I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm a 56 year old male. I've had OCD
since elementary school. I'm also Bipolar. I take Prozac 8o mg, for
the OCD and I take Lamictal 400 mg. for the Bipolar. I take Trazadone
50 – 100 mg. To help me sleep. Through the years, I've been on MANY
different drugs.
I've also been sober in AA for 30 years.
I go through periods where it feels that the Prozac doesn't cut it. It
feels like I need more serotonin. My obsessive thinking gets “much”
worse, and I have a very hard time getting off of certain thought
processes. I have a weight issue, and I'm very reluctant to take a
drug that causes a lot of weight gain.
I stay away from caffeine because it makes my OCD much worse. But
initially, when I first start taking it, my OCD gets much better (much
less). I feel much better taking it. But eventually I take too much,
and I have to stop. I did some research, and I found some reports that
caffeine can increase serotonin. I don't know about this.
Any way, does anyone have any suggestions of what I can try along with
what I’m already taking to help me with this issue. I'm married, and
the these bad periods really makes me worse=more troubles in marriage.
I'd REALLY appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks, bks
