WASHINGTON, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Paralyzed Veterans of America
(PVA) is joining the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in co-
sponsoring a national teleconference for people with multiple sclerosis
(MS), announced PVA National President Richard Grant. The ninth annual
National Multiple Sclerosis Society's educational teleconference,
"Promise and Progress in MS Research," will be held May 4, 11 and 18,
1996, and broadcast to more than 500 sites across the country.

The teleconference will feature 12 segments and provide an update on the
flurry of recent and hopeful MS research projects, Grant said. During
the programs, health professionals will discuss the latest MS research.
Following their discussions, the professionals will take questions via a
teleconference hookup from participants across the nation. Questions
and responses will be heard at all locations. The programs also will use
electronic queuing and polling.

Featured presenters are:

* From the School of Medicine, State University of New York at Stony
Brook -- Patricia K. Coyle, MD, director of the Stony Brook MS
Comprehensive Care Center, and Lauren B. Krupp, MD, associate professor
of neurology, co-director of the Center;

* From the University of California, San Francisco/Mt. Zion MS Center --
Donald E. Goodkin, MD, medical director, and Laura Neilley, MSN, RN-C,
certified adult and gerontological nurse practitioner; and,

* From the Mellen Center for MS Treatment and Research, Cleveland Clinic
Foundation -- Kathleen M. Schwetz, RN, MS, neurological nurse
practitioner, and Richard A. Rudick, MD, director of the clinic and
professor of neurology, Ohio State University College of Medicine.

"This is the third year PVA is proud to co-sponsor this teleconference,"
said Grant. "This partnership with the National Multiple Sclerosis
Society is one that truly benefits both organizations and thousands of
members of each."

"The past decade has been an extraordinarily exciting period for MS
research. We have witnessed the development of a number of potential
treatments and diagnostic technologies for MS. This teleconference will
help convey these important developments to people with MS, their
families and care givers," Grant added.
