This is not symptomatic of my MS, and I have not seen anyone say that is a
symptom. It doesn't seem to me that MS is a possibility, with such a
symptom.
Cathe (Browman)
From what you have described as your friends symptoms, I don't believe
she has MS. MS does cause some cognitive problems, but rarely to the
extent of your friend. I've had MS for 14 years and in that time I've
done a lot of reading on the disease and the symptoms you have mentioned
don't seem to be that of MS. MS is a disease of the central nervous
system. The myelin sheath that coats the neuron transmitters in our CNS
deteriorates which causes placque to form which in turn interfere with
neuron transmissions. I'm not a Dr. so I couldn't even make a guess as to
your friends illness. I wish you luck in your search.

Your friend could have MS but the things you mention indicate a
probability of something else. If you can get the name of the
place your friend lives and know the town, you can get a phone
call to her. If you don't know the name of the facility, just
write and ask her. You can do more helping and support your
friend better if you know what the problem is.
Sorry about your friend. It must hurt your heart some. If it
does turn out to be MS, please let us know if we can help you in
any way. You may need some support if you are going to get
reinvolved in her life. And it does sound like she is reaching
out to you. Often when one gets ill enough to be placed in a
nursing facility, ones friends drop down to nobody. Sometimes
even the family finds it too tough to handle and seldom visits.
Find out what you can. Usually a letter, a card, or a little
care package - if you can handle it - once every two or three
weeks is a more than welcome pick-me-up.
These things I know. I have been a director of nursing in such a
facility for a few years and worked in them for 26 years
altogether.

I met a man in Greece who has MS and when I met him last november
he couldn't hold a pen. Let alone write a readable letter.
He has been drinking the oral Swiss Rebif avonex and mitoxantroneIV
with Dr Kountouris in Athens and I can't believe the post card I
just received from him !
Beautiful handwriting !
