Not long ago, some band in Ontario came up with a bizzare idea for a CD, and it
was so bizarre, they thought it just might sell... so they recorded a country
remake (in its entirety) of Pink Floyd's "The Wall". It's remarkably well done,
and it really is neat how well the music fits such a totally different format.

Just a few minutes ago, I heard another odd cross-cultural recording. A Canadian
Bluegrass jug band called "Jughead" has just released a CD this week, and the
first single released from that recording is a remake of Ozzy Osborne's "Crazy
Train", complete with gut-bucket bass, hammer-claw banjo, harmonica, accordion and
twangy-voiced country-girl singer.

Staggering.

Ozzy Osborne is one hilariously funny guy. I remember him telling a story
about how he was
pissed drunk one night and stopped to urinate at an old building. A police
car stopped him and the
officer started writing him a ticket. Osborne protested but he officer
informed him that the building he was pissing on was the Alamo. The officer
then asked him how he would feel if the officer pissed on Buckingham
Palace.? Osborne replied.........from here? He was promptly arrested for
insubordination and cheek.

I'd love to hear this. I remember about 12 years ago the London Symphony
Orchesta recorded some Jethro Tull music. It turned out very good.

It's hard to screw up good music. Although I did fall out of bed laughing one
morning when the clock radio came on with Edie Gormé and her husband (can't
remember his name) doing a cover of "Black Hole Sun."

Good grief! How did they do "Brick In The Wall (Part 2)," or "Dirty
Woman?" I mean, I could envision the former as a kind of two-step, but
what of the latter?

Fascinating concept.

Speaking of Pink Floyd, my choice for "World's Greatest Bar Band"
(though they may have out-grown the "Bar Band" by now) is
"Leftover Salmon", from down in Colorado some where. Their
musical genre is "polyethnic cajun slamgrass", and they do a
great bluegrassish (somewhat altered) version of Dark Side of the
Moon.

see you on the dark side ... " etc.

Hi there, Michael!

Wull hayull... ah *never*! I've received a *bunch* of requests for info about
this... so, here it is:

The CD that I referred to is "Rebuild The Wall: Pt. I" by Luther Wright and The
Wrongs.

I think it's a Universal release...

There was a CBC radio RealAudio web broadcast (day before yesterday) of a live
show they did a little while ago, which included several of the songs from that
CD. Really good stuff. (Complete with bullwhips, cattle calls and barking herd
dogs.)

I'm gonna see today if I can track down an archive of the RealAudio file... if I
find
one, I'll post the URL.

Considering that I'm the original poster here, and that the stupid things grow on
my lawn...

...well, I'll be seeing you.
