DAVID Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have given their own spooky take on
design. The stars of the X-Files have joined other Hollywood names who
have taken up their paintbrushes to raise money for a Multiple Sclerosis
Charity.

Ceramic tiles painted and signed by more than 50 celebrities will go for
auction in Los Angeles tomorrow as part of the "Rock N Soul To Erase MS"
charity event, hosted by Nancy Davis. The auction of 600 items is
expected to raise more than £2 million for the Nancy Davis Multiple
Sclerosis Foundation.

Television’s investigators of the bizarre displayed a fair degree of
originality in their tile artwork. Duchovny painted a spooky blue face,
while Anderson also opted for blue, painting a small blue man standing
on his own in the bottom left-hand corner of her tile.

Michael Douglas, a keen golfer who has been a regular fixture at the
Alfred Dunhill Cup in St Andrews in recent years, has painted a figure
swinging a golf club on his tile, while his wife, Catherine Zeta Jones,
opted for a flower with a smiling face leaning over another flower.

Oddly, the colour yellow featured prominently in many of the stars’
paintings. Madonna painted a hazy-looking sun, while Rosie O’Donnell
painted a series of brightly-coloured dots over a yellow background.

Lucy Liu, who starred in Charlie’s Angels, also caught yellow fever,
decorating her tile with a huge daffodil.

Some of the stars seemed to be suffering from something of a creativity
deficit.

Liu, Zeta Jones, Lance Bass of the boy band N’Sync and Roseanne’s ex,
Tom Arnold, all painted variations on the happy face/flowers theme.

The actress Brooke Shields looked to have broken the mould somewhat when
she painted five hearts, but she ruined the effect by adding a yellow
background.

Other stars who donated tiles for the auction include Sylvester
Stallone, Daryl Hannah, Jon Bon Jovi, Martin Sheen and the boxer Sugar
Ray Leonard.
