boy, that's a bit unnerving - glad she's ok. the crazy things we do
when the hormones are running high.

Wow - that was scary! Here's hoping for a short heat! I've only
had one dog that went into heat (at the time I thought that they
needed to go through one before being spayed), and I didn't have
a fenced yard, so I had to take her out on a leash. Maybe that
was best, after all.

One thing to keep in mind if you're letting her out in the yard
alone... if she could go under the fence, so could another dog.
Or over - some motivated dogs can scale an 8' fence, and female
in heat is a powerful motivator. 30' might be too long!

Indeed. "Mythbusters" showed that the one thing that would completely
distract an otherwise well-trained and focused (male) guard dog, was the
scent from a female dog in heat.
