I was vomiting for 15 hrs yesterday and had a burning pit in my stomach.
Went to the ER on the advice of the Medi nurse, but the wait was too long
and I'd rather suffer at home than in those uncomfortable chairs.
Went to Urgent care at 8am. I was given a GI cocktail- had mylanta,
lidocaine and something else?
I want to get this for home. It was a blessing.
Guess what the cause??? LUPUS. This damn disease.
I couldn't take my meds cuz I kept puking, couldn't take my pain meds so my
body was in pain, couldn't stand up straight cuz my gut hurt.
Dr was great tho. Shocked that it took me so long to come in.
I vomit frequently but never had this severe stomach pain before... It was
up there with labor but no relief.
The cocktail had viscious lidocaine which numbed by acid burned throat and
stomach. Thank goodness.
Does anyone else go thru this?
I had phenegran by mouth and zantac but that does no good when you can't
keep anything down. I could barely drink anything cuz I kept vomiting. I'm
dehydrated and now trying to hydrate myself.
Had a killer headache, vomiting and the stomach pain-- ER wait was over 3
hrs...there was a baby puking his guts out and he had been there 3 hrs so I
knew my wait was longer.
Not to mention my restless legs couldn't stop moving.
Anyways.. just sharing my woes w/people who understand
Nicole

I had the exact same thing with my stomach...and had the GI cocktail
too...great stuff! I don't remember what the third ingredient was
either ... sorry.

But I used Phenagren suppositories (sp?)...and I also have topical
Phenagren, which is very hard to get. You would rub this pastey
lotion on your wrist and the phenagren was absorbed into the
bloodstream. Both worked great. Forget eating for a day, and only
sip water every 20 minutes to give your stomach a rest and let the
inflammation die down. I was put on Reglan that worked wonders for my
stomach. I had/have GERD and gastroparesis which was misery. Both
have been under great control in the last 6 months (knock on
wood!!!!).

The Reglan makes me vomit faster. LOL
The cocktail was amazing. Finally, relief.
You understand the utter pain I was in. I even told my husband, I'm a baby
cuz I'm complaining so much.... I couldn't get drink Sprite cuz it hurt my
throat so badly.
Never heard of oral phenegran. Definitely will ask about that. I need to
talk to my doctor about what happened and find out what's in that cocktail
so I can keep some on hand.
the vomiting sessions don't usually last that long but 15+ hrs was a long
time. If it weren't for the acid, it would've been ok... the acid is what
made me want to crawl into a ball and just lay there.
Urgent care was wonderful- very surprising. One dr even talked to my
husband about his watch LOL. They had the same one.
I'm so relieved that I'm feeling better and this was a one time thing. The
sheet the dr gave me said gastritis can be caused from autoimmune diseases.
Great. Also nsaids or aspirin- another great!

The "cocktail" I was given was Mylanta, Lidocaine, and Donnatal. Donnatal
is a mixture of Hyoscyamine, Atropine, Scopolamine, and Phenobarbital. I
believe it is Donnatal that is the ingredient that is helping you guys. It
is very habit forming. It is one of the few drugs that made me feel like a
million bucks. My doc won't give it to me... she gave me phenergan.

I had this "cocktail" in the ER when I had chest pain. They needed to find
out where the pain was originating... cardiac or not. They gave me the
cocktail and the pain went away, so they knew that the pain was in my
esophagus. A subsequent workup showed that I had GERD.

It is my understanding that they give this "cocktail" only for diagnostic
purposes. If any of you have had it as an ongoing treatment, I would like
to hear about it.

Phenergan comes in suppositories, tablets, and syrup (Phenergan is also an
expectorant, so it is given as phenergan with codeine as a cough syrup).

I hope some of this answers your questions,

Be well,

Mair

I have the viscous lidocaine & Alternagel (Mylanta without the magnesium) at
home to mix and take as needed. My doc & I decided to leave out the donnatol
as I already have gastroparesis (my stomach doesn't empty properly) and, as
noted, donnatol will slow down the GI contractions. So, it is not only given
for diagnosis. At my ER it is called "The Green Goddess". I take it for
GERD, gastritis.--

My dr won't give me the viscous lidocaine. He said that needs to be done in
an urgent care setting... but urgent care wasn't open for hours when I
needed it.
I used to get the lidocaine for mouth sores. Is that the same one? Cuz
then I could get some and use it if necessary.
My dr recommended the *new* (he was adament) pepto bismol and mylanta. The
Pink Lady.

I took Maalox, Mylanta and Viscous Lidocaine and they called it the green
lizard. I could care less what it was called... any thing to stop that
pain.
It was horrible cuz I couldn't keep my meds down either so I was incredible
pain as it was, then all my joints starting hurting, it was horrible. I
hope never to repeat that again. I'm popping zantac whenever i get a little
twinge. and am being faithful with protonix (I neglected it before)
