Today I met with my kidney specialist for my annual appointment.

He told me that I am doing very well, that my creatinine
level is 162, down from 164 last year, which is good, and
that my blood results have not varied much since 2012,
and even though most people experience a 1% decline
(and increase in creatinine) each year after the age
of 40, I haven't been experiencing that in recent years.
Also my blood pressure is good, but I have put on a little
weight since last year. He told me to come back in a year.

He didn't tell me the eGFR, but it is calculated from
the creatiniine, and an online calculator puts it at 41.

I follow a lacto ovo vegetarian diet plus fish, drink lots
of water, in early 2013 ended taking the lithium that caused
the damage, take a multivitamin and vitamin C, and
limit my drinking of alcohol to three pints of beer twice
a week. I haven’t been exercising much lately other
than a bit of walking but may resume yoga and
badminton soon. I haven’t been limiting my potassium
or protein intake yet.

On the other hand my older brother, who was also on
lithium and is a bit more than nine years older than
me, has an eGFR of about 10 and is looking at
dialysis or a kidney transplant soon.

What's lacto-ovo? How long were u on lithium at what dosage? I was on
lithium for a short while but discontinued-too many side effects.
Most multivitamins contain way too high doses-check the research, cause
more harm than good, especially not recommended A,E and certain minerals
like chromium. I drink NO alcohol-that's poison for ur kidneys and beer
is much worse than wine. Protein needs to be restricted and fish is high
in phosporous-especially bad depending at what stage you are. Potassium
ok till stage 4-5. Too much water is bad, not recommended especially at
later stages. What's ur BP, should be under 120. Vitamin C over 60mg not
recommended risk for kidney stones. I am taking vit D to help with lung
congestion which I think is caused by the shit that the kidneys are not
getting rid of, not related to heart.

21 years, mostly on 1800 mg lithium carbonate daily, or
a blood level of 0.8, though for a few of the years
it was lower than that.

Yes, it is under 120, though I forget the exact numbers,
and I am not on blood pressure medication and am
not restricting salt, though I don’t use a lot of salt.

Dairy has immune system problems, I have to limit it. As we get older the
immune system has a hard time discriminating between certain foods and
body invaders.

A dangerous drug, sounds like a high dose to me, but that's from memory.
Olanzapine a newer anti-psychotic also damages the kidneys.

Salt is hard to avoid: no canned goods, no processed meats, no added
salt. Even have to be careful with recommendations to supplement with
sodium bicarb, can raise your BP. High BP is a killer to the kidneys.
Good u have low BP, means your circulatory system is pretty good. People
with CKD more often die from heart disease than from kidney disease.
