Moe,
Dunno where they all went, but we never had a huge following
anyway. I'm not sure about your form of Kidney Disease, but many of
us here have found that if your kidney function is slowly going south,
there is a way to slow that down to delay or avoid dialysis. The
stats on the internet at most hospitals put the mortality with
dialysis at 1 out of 4 in the first year. One person here has said
the cause is often that people don't follow the rules the doctors give
them about being on dialysis.
For my purposes, I just want to avoid or delay dialysis, and the
method a few of us here have found works pretty well is the extreme
low protein diet. The diet and the circumstances is described very
well in a book by Dr. Mackenzie Walser called "Coping With Kidney
Disease". Dr. Walser worked as a kidney researcher at Johns Hopkins
for 45 years. The book can be found at amazon.com. Cherck the 'used'
section as there are some new books for about $7.50 there.
The diet MUST be done with a special 'Essential Amino Acid' (EAA)
supplement, which may be obtained from Gambro products or Calwood
Nutrititionals.
Good luck,
Chris
