My son had a kidney transplant 4 years ago. Medicare was paying for his medication, but no longer. What kind of help does Montana have to offer. There is no way he can pay for the cost of his medication. I don't know of anyone who could. Please help

Hi Pat,

Most drug companies have what is called an indigent drug program, where they will supply you with 1 to 3 months of medicine at a time. You have to pick this up at the doctors.
The doctor will have to fill out a form in most cases, or sometimes doctor and patient.
I don't know if the medications your son uses are covered under these programs, but it's worth a shot. I have some phone numbers and addresses from a book listing most pharmaceutical companies. If you'd like, email me with the makers of your son's medication, and I'll send you their info.

Just stopping by. I have CKD and have avoided dialysis for 11 years now and counting. The very low protein diet (VLPD) did it for me.

I feel horrible even posting here now. Many of you are far more severe than I am. My life changed Feb.16. I had eaten something with E Coli. Thought it was a flu. 2 weeks later hospitalized several weeks as it ate my kidneys. I now have 23% of normal but I feel Good? Had another kidney biopsy at hospital yesterday. Results pending?

If it's a permanent condition that won't restore by itself, read "Coping with Kidney Disease" by Mackenzie Walser, MD. There is a diet described there that will help to delay or even avoid dialysis. It is a Very Low Protein Diet (VLPD) and I've used it for 11 years successfully, and still going. You MUST take an 'Essential amino acid' supplement with it. If any nephrologist tells you the diet is no good, get away from them quickly. I had 4 nephrologists tell me there was nothing that could be done, so I went on the internet and found the book mentioned above. Eleven years is enough to be sure it works.

Read a book called "Coping with Kidney Disease" by Mackenzie Walser, MD.

Using the info there can possibly lower the amount of dialysis you have to go through weekly.

An extreme low protein diet (VLPD) can sometimes reduce the need for dialysis a bit and make life a bit easier.

Not at this time, but you can delay or avoid dialysis if you use the Walser diet. It is a Very Low Protein Diet (VLPD). Get a copy of the book called "Coping with Kidney Disease" by Mackenzie Walser. He was a Kidney researcher for Johns Hopkins for 45 years. You can find it here:

When I found out that I had Chronic Kidney Disease I did an Excel spreadsheet and saw that the rate at which my numbers were going down, I would be in dialysis in 6-8 months. I looked on the internet and found the book above. I've been avoiding dialysis for 13 years so far by following the diet it recommends.

Note: If any nephrologist tells you the diet is no good or doesn't work, or never heard of it, leave quickly. That one will get you into all kinds of trouble.

Good afternoon. My name is Ethel. I have one kidney removed because of cancer and a tumor ablated on my left kidney. Now I have a complex cyst on my left kidney and the doctor is saying that he cannot be sure if it is cancerous because a biopsy isn’t definitive. He left it up to me if I want to have it removed. From 2016 it was 1.1cm and it is now 2.3 cm. I am not sure what to do. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you.
