I've only heard the name; however, I found this, among many
others:

My first jockstrap was a Litesome.
Once I knew what a jockstrap was, I had to have one. Eventually I got
the courage and I went to the sports shop in my lunch break from my
Saturday job.
I was very nervous about asking for a jockstrap and tried not to show
it. I cant remember if the shop assistant was male or female but I had
to ask as it was an older shop with most of the things behind the
counter.
I can remember my hands trembling as I handed the money over and I
stuffed the bag into my pocket so no one would see it. As soon as I
got back to where I worked, I had to go and put it on. I was late and
just had time to get it on and pull my work clothes back on and stuff
my underwear in my pocket.
I couldnt believe how good it felt and I didnt manage to concentrate
on work too much for the rest of the day!

As soon as I could, I rushed home to go into the bathroom to see what
it looked like in the mirror. It felt so good that I had to keep it on
and then wore it under my pajamas that night and most nights after.

Once it started to get worn and a bit loose, I went to buy anither one
from a different shop. I still felt just as nervous as I was not a
sportsman and I just hoped no one would start a conversation about
what sports I played. They didnt, but the assistant asked me what
colour I wanted. This was I shock as I didnt know there was a choice!
I suppose I must have asked what they had, and he produced a box (all
Litesome) with various colours. I chose a white and a red. I think
they had yellow and blue as well.

I kept the red one for quite a few years until it finally stretched
beyond use.
I still wear jocks a lot of the time and almost always for sleep. I
still have a couple of old litesomes but I find some of the other
cricket ones a better fit.

Oh yes, the Litesome - great jock, with its off white cotton elastic
waistband with green tracer stripes, soft stretchy pouch with elastic
sides that attached to the cloth covered legstraps. They were made by
Fred Hurtley in Keighley, Yorkshire, and had a picture on the label of
a guy (with wings?) standing on the world - perhaps a good logo for
jock-wearers. They were very comfortable and especially good for
wearing all day. Then they added a nylon model - more tight fitting,
dried quickly but less comfortable for all day wear, though there was
also a nylon narrow waistband swimmer jock that was very nice - I
think I still have one somewhere. Then they redesigned the labels and
packaging, went into colours and before long seemed to go out of
business altogether - in the 70s or 80s? UK sports stores that still
sell jocks (mainly for cricket these days) sell Litesome imitations
such as the ProSport or Slazenger but I've never found these fitted me
as well as the Litesome. I seem to remember Litesome advertisements
that said 'What a belt - and what a comfort!'
I wear jocks much of the time but they are usually US designs these
days, easily bought from the US over the internet. I sometimes sleep
in a Bike swimmer. If you sleep in one, do you just keep on the jock
you've been wearing all day, or have some you keep specially for night
wear? I prefer a different kind of jock for sleep than the kind I wear
all day, and prefer a narrower waistband, slightly longer pouch to
sleep in.

Sometimes I keep the same one on if I have only worn it for a day,
other times I go for a different one for sleeping.
I quite like the swimmers for sleeping but it depends what is clean
and ready. I just find it much more comfortable that when I turn over
and move around, everything stays in place.
I think my current favourites for daytime are Slazenger or Kookaburra
cricket types. They are the ones with the soft, jersey-type pouch and
really fit well and lift forwards. I find the Prosport ones too tight,
but I am not small.

Forward lift is what I look for in a jock - I like a snug pouch with
good support that lifts everything and holds it forward. I don't mind
a bit of compression in the pouch but I don't like my goods squashed
against me, so the pouch needs to be shaped and engineered a bit, and
most jock pouches are. I also think length of pouch is important: I
wear my waistbands low on my hips but many jocks seem to be designed
to be worn on the waist, or perhaps it's just that we are all have
slightly different body shapes. If the pouch is too long, the end of
it disappears behind your legs and you lose the forward lift. The
older US sports jocks from the 50s and 60s (like the iconic all cotton
Bike 10 with its wheel logo) sat nicely on the hips, as did the
Litesome (and later the Futuro V-Gard), but their more modern, largely
polyester, versions seem to have much longer pouches. You can roll the
waistband over for more lift, but if you want a more long-lasting
solution, it's best to unpick the tops of the pouch from the
waistband, cut off an inch or two from the top of the pouch and stitch
it back on. This can be fiddly (and you need to stop the knitted pouch
unraveling) but I've done it quite successfully on some more modern
Bikes, Dukes, SafeTGuards etc (with some help from my wife and her
sewing machine). But meanwhile the range of new jocks increases every
week and almost every designer and brand of underwear has one and some
of them are very nice and most are specially designed for all day
wear. About 10 years ago I found a Canadian BodyBodywear jock and they
are ideal - cotton with a good lift - but then they seem to have gone
out of business. Then more recently there has been the Californian Wax
brand, in a range of colours and styles and very comfortable. They had
a specially good sport jock with knitted pouch, almost like the old
Bike, but then they too went out of business. Still there must now be
a market for jocks again or the designers wouldn't all be producing
new ones. It's good that younger guys will be able to try wearing
jocks, but there's also a great graveyard of vanished models and
brands: perhaps some manufacturer could revive a few?

Thanks for posting. I agree with what you wrote. Too bad the WAX
jocks disappeared. I have one or two in my collection. And the
BodyBody Wear was was a great line too.

Of the jocks now available at internationaljock.com, the Tulio Power
Pouch Slinky are about the best at lift and forward projection.
Ergowear, N2N Bodywear, and Obviously for Men have some nice jocks as
well.

Recently I acquired some of the McKillop jocks from Vancouver. While
they are expensive, they are excellent. Take a look here:

http://www.topdrawers.com/underwear/mckillop-uw/mckillop-uw-underwear.html

Also this year I got the Supreme Athletic Wear (SAW) Athletic
Supporter and Flex Cup. It's definitely different, and not something
you can wear under jeans or pants without a noticable bump at the top
of the cup. I see it too is currently unavailable from IJ, although
you might be able to get it directly from SAW:

http://store.sawsports.com/

While they're built to be sexy above function, PULSE makes a nice
sheer jock too:

http://erogenos.com/productDetails.php?productId=2117

IJ did bring back some of the older style designs with their PCP
Champion line.

http://www.internationaljock.com/pcp-champion-underwear,8204.html

But regretably the "BUB" line they resurrected a few years ago is no
longer in the catalog. The original BUBs made in the Bronx, NY as
late as the 1970s, were builtl like a Sherman tank; almost
indestructable. All models except the swimmer had one or more
stiffeners to keep the waistband from rolling. Like you wrote, if you
can get the waistband down off your waist, it won't roll so easily :-)

Stay jocked, men! And share your discoveries and thoughts here.

MERRY CHRISTMAS
AND
HAPPY NEW YEAR

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Regards,
Alan

Ooh. Monkey see, monkey buy! Soon!

Bought one and wore it so much I wore the elastic out. Time
for another.

Bought two of these; didn't like; weren't comfortable; got
rid of. However, the pre-resurrection BUB cup jocks are great.

Also bought John Sievers' underwear; hasn't come yet. I was
wanting more Obviouslys and figured his may be at least as good.

Cheers!

Thanks for the links. The McKillop looks good and worth trying. I did
try the PCP Champion a few years ago, both regular and swimmer. I
liked the cotton fabric but the cut of both was odd and neither fitted
me well.
The best new jocks I've come across recently are the Puma, which fit
very well and are very comfortable:
http://www.mensunderwearstore.com/prod/puma/PU-FA4001-003WB.html
Also, the redesigned Aussiebum Deadly Sins jocks are very nice, as are
their new Soldier line:

http://www.aussiebum.com/en/underwear/1191/jock reserve/
Happy Holidays.

Hi John:

Good to hear from you as always :-)

You're welcome.

The SAW cup is definitely different. Let us know what you think of
it.

Agreed. The BUB resurrected line was not as well made as the
originals from The Bronx, NY. Those were made like Sherman tanks!

I got my John Sievers last week. They are similar to the Obviously
for Men in many ways including price. I think the JS colors will be
different from the OfM selection.

As the BF remarked a while ago, the OfM "are like wearing nothing" as
they so comfortably accommodate and conform to the male anatomy.

So did everyone have a good holiday so far?

My friend in South Africa sent me a KOOKABURRA Super Pro Abdo Mens
cricket/rugby cup (made in India) in all-white PVC except for the
hand-sewn leather surround cushion :-). I shoved it in my undies and
wore it most of the day.

Alan

You're welcome.

I think I mentioned the McKillop jocks are on the expensive side, but
they're really well made for a man. If you get one, please tell us
how you like it.

You probably hit on why there are different brands and cuts of jocks.
We're all built similar but slightly different :-) something to
accommodate everyone.

Thanks for the tips on the Puma and AussieBum goods! I'll check them
out soon.

Regards,
Alan

That's the only thing I ordered before Christmas that hasn't
arrived yet. Am eager to get it.

I always know I'm wearing OFMs and have been impressed by
the way they adjust to whatever position/state my body is
in. The JSs are the same plus they feel like I've gone
commando.

You'll like it. I'm wearing mine now, under my new Champion.

Cheers!

Golly Moses, Al, this SAW Spiderguard cup is bigger then my
Kookaburra.

Hi John:

Errmmm... OK... it may be bigger, but do you think it has more room
than the KOOKABURRA? Also, how do you rate it with respect to the
ORIGINAL BANANA CUP?

HAPPY NEW YEAR! everyone

Hi. I sure do remember the famous Litesome strap. My all time favourite to wear. I used to love the leg straps and the deep waist band.
