I have a hiatal hernia and I'm a singer. I have been very vocal
fatigued lately. It's hard for me to sing for more than 20 minutes
without feeling very fatigued. My ENT doctor says that my vocal
chords are red from the acid... I've had some ulcers on my vocal folds
a week ago. I've tried everything to get rid of my acid reflux
(elevating the bed, diet, etc.), I'm on 40mgs of Nexium a day and now
I'm considering the Nissen Fundoplication surgery on the hiatal hernia
that I have. Do you know if the Nissen surgery has a history of
impairing singing? WILL I BE ABLE TO SING AGAIN AFTER SURGERY. I
can't find a single piece of information on the web about singers who
have had a surgery for hiatal hernia. What are my chances that this
will mess up my singing voice? Does anyone know of a doctor that
deals with singers? Thanks a million for your help.
