1.1) WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT:

You can treat your herpes at home, with over the counter medications
that cost almost nothing. This worked for me, my sister, and several
others I know. I am posting this because, last time I looked at the
FAQ, there was no mention of it.

1.2) I'M NOT SELLING ANYTHING:

I'm going to talk about how using BHT cured my herpes, how to do this
yourself, and WHERE TO GET MORE INFORMATION. I am not affiliated with
any of the sources I mention, I am not being paid to write this.

1.3) WHO I AM:

I contracted genital herpes from my girlfriend in 1988, and have had
outbreaks at about every three months since then (that's 7 and a half
years as of this writing). I am a computer person, not a medical
researcher, but neurochemistry is a hobby of mine. Since I contracted
herpes, I've been reading everything I could lay my hands on about it.

1.4) WHAT HAPPENED TO ME:

I read a book (listed below) that suggested using 250mg of BHT every
day to end herpes outbreaks. It worked for me. I haven't had one
since. After 6 months, I asked my sister to try it. She has facial
herpes that goes back 10 years. She would have small outbreaks every
three or four weeks before BHT. She hasn't had one since.

1.5) GETTING MORE INFORMATION - PART 1

I strongly suggest that anyone considering this should read a book
called "Wipe Out Herpes With BHT" by John A. Mann and Steven Wm.
Fowkes. It can be purchased from the Cognitive Enhancement Research
Institute for $6 at 415.321.2374 (in the US).

1.7) "THIS SOUNDS LIKE BULLS--T! PROVE IT!"

The book INCLUDES CITATIONS for every point it makes. I have checked
out several of these in MEDLINE, and they were all borne out. Don't
like what I have to say? Check there first.

1.8) CLOSING SECTION 1 - READ THE BOOK/ARTICLE!!

You can argue with me all you want, I won't argue back. It's worked
for me and for several people I know. So far, I'm not recommending
that anyone start taking BHT, just that you read the book, or article,
or both; and decide for yourself.

2.1) END OF PRIM AND PROPER

The first time I posted to alt.support.herpes, some people attacked
what I was saying; they said BHT causes cancer (see below), and that
some of my terminology was incorrect, and that I was probably a newbie
to herpes and had just reached the one year mark (despite the fact
that I mentioned that I contracted it in 1988), and that my reasoning
didn't make sense to them.

Well, the section above is for them. I'm not going to argue the
science with anyone who has not read the book, and cannot offer
citations to back up their arguments.

In section two, I'll talk about the specifics of what BHT is, does,
etc.; how to use it, how I use it, where to get it, etc. But I'm still
speaking as a computer guy, not a researcher. There will be a lot of
oversimplifications. You can start clearing up your herpes just with
the information here. BUT PLEASE GET AND READ THE BOOK OR ARTICLE ON
THE WEB!! (Or both!) I'm not an authority, please READ THE BOOK!

2.2) WHO I THINK I'M TALKING TO

I'm writing this for lay persons, not medical types. I'm sure that
many medical types may find this interesting, but they should read the
book for the real skinny. For the lay persons like me, I've tried to
keep this as simple as possible. Defining terms, stuff like that. I'm
not trying to talk down to anybody, just to help everyone understand.

2.3) THE SHORT VERSION

OK, keeping this simple, if you take 250mg of BHT (which can be gotten
at many, though not all, health food/vitamin stores - more info below)
every day for the rest of your life, you will never have an outbreak
again, or be able to pass herpes on to anyone else (more info below).
If you have herpes and your partner doesn't, you should both take it
(more info below). (If this section is all you read of this post,
please read the book or Internet article).

2.4) DEFINITIONS

antioxidant: Some normal biologic processes generate
molecules called free radicals. These molecules react with those
around them causing damage until they are quenched by an antioxidant.
The higher the levels of antioxidants in your system, the less damage
free radicals do. Vitamins C, E, and some of the B family are
antioxidants.

Growth Hormone: A hormone secreted by the pituitary gland in
the brain (if I'm not mistaken). One effect of growth hormone is to
speed up the metabolism. If you take a growth hormone releaser (such
as Arginine, see below) before going to bed, you will actually burn
fat in your sleep!

Immunoboosting: Anything that enhances the effects of the
immune system.

Immunosupressive: Anything that lessens the effect of the immune
system.

L-Lysine: An amino acid found in food. If you take
supplements of this, it can help lessen or even in some very few cases
completely relieve your herpes outbreaks. Lysine has minor
Immunosupressive effects.

2.4.1) HERPES and HERPESVIRUS

Herpes is a family of viruses that enter the body through mucous
membranes, or breaks in the skin. Once in the body, an outbreak of
some sort usually occurs (often accompanied by itching). The body can
fight off the outbreak, but by then the virus has burrowed into nerve
cells and is in a latent state, hiding from the body's defenses.

Herpes includes several types of virus, including chicken pox. Once
you have a herpes virus, you have it for life (according to mainstream
medicine).

In addition to hiding in nerve cells, herpes has a "lipid envelope"
(read "shell made of fats") that helps keep it hidden from the body's
defense systems.

In the long term, herpes can actually be dangerous. If you have
herpes, whenever you touch an outbreak, you have virus on your hands.
Usually even an outbreak that's almost gone. If that gets in your eye,
it can cause blindness. In addition, herpes in the eye or around the
mouth can spread to the brain (this is more common with "ocular"
herpes than oral herpes). This very rare condition can cause madness
or death.

2.4.2) L-ARGININE

Arginine is an amino acid found in food. Arginine gets it's own
section for a lot of reasons.

First, if you have herpes and you take arginine (without taking BHT),
you increase your chances of having an outbreak; Arginine seems to
trigger the latent virus.

Secondly, Arginine is an immunobooster. I count this as a good thing.
In response to my first post, someone said "Boosting the immune system
is not always a good idea....the list of autoimmune disorders is very
long". I don't seem to have any problem with this. If you're not sure,
ask your doctor.

Thirdly, Arginine causes a release of growth hormone (see 2.4 for more
info) - this is why I wanted to take it.

2.5) BHT - WHAT IT IS

BHT is a common preservative used in food. The technical term for it
is lipophilic antioxidant 3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxytoluene. It is a
powerful antioxidant. In fact, that's how it works as a preservative,
it prevents oxidation of the oils in food, when the oils oxidize, they
go rancid.

2.6) WHAT IT DOES

BHT breaks down the lipid envelope surrounding the viral DNA. This
makes it easy for the immune system to destroy the virus. (Yes, this
is a serious oversimplification, read the book and research the
citations in it, they explain why it opens viral envelopes but not
cell membranes)

2.7) WHEN I STARTED TAKING IT

I started taking BHT and arginine supplements on the same day. The
next morning (day 2), I had an outbreak. That's been normal for me in
the past. But what wasn't normal, the outbreak was gone the next day
(day 3)! And I've kept up the arginine (and BHT) and haven't had an
outbreak since.

2.8) HOW I USE IT

Every evening I take 1000mg of arginine and 250mg of BHT. This
specific combination is the only thing in this article that is not
mentioned in the book. I do this because it's known that arginine
causes the latent virus to become active. When that happens, the BHT
destroys the lipid envelope of the just activated virus, and then the
immune system kills what's left of the virus.

2.9) WHAT ABOUT MY PARTNER?

According to the book, taking BHT will also make it impossible for you
to get herpes if you don't have it (kills the virus before it can take
root).

2.10) HOW MANY SUCCESSES? JUST ME AND MY SISTER? NOPE.

For me, the success was amazing. For my sister, even more so. But two
cases aren't enough to base a decision on. The book discusses many
more. All of which were successes. Since I wrote the first version of
this article, I've heard from a couple of dozen others who have also
had success. I have yet to hear from anyone who had an outbreak while
taking BHT.

2.11) WHY HAVEN'T I HEARD ABOUT THIS BEFORE?

BHT is not a patentable substance. It costs over $200 million to push
a compound through the FDA's approval process. This means that the
only entities that will push a drug through the FDA's approval process
are companies that stand to make much more than that back selling the
compound once approval has been achieved. You can only make that kind
of huge sum when you've got a patent on the compound.

In addition, the FDA has made it illegal for drug companies to
distribute information on compounds for other than approved uses.
Since the drug companies provide the information used to compile
publications like the PDR (Physician's Desk Reference), this means
that the FDA prohibits the education of physicians through normal
channels for things like BHT.

This means that most doctors don't know about this use of BHT. After I
started taking it, I passed the book on to my doctor.

2.12) WHERE TO GET IT

I get mine from a vitamin store here in Berkeley, CA called "Vitamin
Express". I found this place by opening up the phone book to "Health
Food" and just started down the list calling and asking if they
carried "antioxidant BHT supplements". The two biggest stores in town
didn't have it. Mine is produced by Twinlab.

2.13) CANCER

The book discusses one case that came up during testing of BHT as a
food preservative, where the rats given BHT got cancer (which just
goes to prove that researchers cause cancer in lab rats). These
results were not able to be duplicated, and in fact were later found
to be related to a contaminant in the rats food, not to BHT.

The fact is that since BHT was introduced as a food preservative, the
incidence of cancers of the digestive tract have been reduced.

This is still an area of concern for many, if it is for you, I
strongly suggest you research the matter yourself. (And don't take
megadoses!)

2.14) GETTING MORE INFORMATION - PART 3

One person sent this: "I first heard of it about 15 years ago from the
life extention couple Doug and Sandy Shaw and or Peterson or something
like that. They are well educated, very accomplished scientist (I
think). Much more info. of the long term type must be available by
now."

2.15) BEING CAUTIOUS PROS AND CONS

I spend a lot of time researching life ententions compounds, and in
one of the papers I was reading, the author pointed out that many
people will decide to wait until the long term results are in before
trying these compounds themselves. But by the time the results are in,
these people will be too old to care. That's how I feel about using
BHT.

2.16) I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH BHT

I would really like to hear from people who try BHT. I'm still looking
for a story of someone who follows the instructions in the book and
yet still has outbreaks. And I'm also interested in hearing about
successes.

2.17) PERSONAL GRIPES ABOUT PREVIOUS REPLIES

Several people commented about my last post without reading the whole
thing (like one person who said I must have just passed the one year
mark despite the fact that I said I've had it since 1988!), or without
reading the book, or without providing citations to back up their
statements. In several cases, I requested that commenters provide
citations or that they read the book and then comment again, I never
heard back from any of them.

Kudos for putting it out there about BHT, This is my experience with it.

Anyone not believing this is losing out, I am a fan of earth clinic and had followed a thread on the site about HepC, long story short my oldest son ended up with HepC during his rebellious years using drugs, he also contracted herpes on the mouth and down below. I bought BHT for him to fight the HepC... Well his numbers are looking good but he still needs to take it for the HepC BUT his herpes was gone! No more mouth sores and he tells me he hadn't had a breakout in the private region, we had his blood tested for the HepC and there were no sign of the herpes virus in his blood. Do your research, I did mine and found why the BHT works, it destroys the lipid envelope the virus hides in, your immune system can't detect it when there is an envelope around it so when it is destroyed your own body will fight the nasty invaders like it is supposed to do. And FYI many virus have a lipid envelope to hide and attack, look up viruses that have a lipid envelope, you'd be surprised.

Thank you! I have several questions and hope someone can help.
- Have you or anyone on this forum done pre-post blood tests/PCR tests that show HSV is negative after using BHT?
- How long should the regimen be followed before testing again?
- I have read so many times that HSV cannot be eliminated from the body. Do you believe it possible to eliminate it completely with BHT?
- While I understand that L-arginine helps BHT eliminate the active virus, doesn't some of the virus remain in the nerves even if the active portion of the virus is killed?

hello sir get you some wild oil of oregano from this guy named james white on youtube all you do is put the a couple drops with organic coconut oil and hold under your tounge and on your lower back in which it gets to the nervous system in the spine where the virus hides to kill it but you have to change your diet. hopes this helps

Hello! I want to share my experience with hsv free forever. At first I was skeptic but gradually the results proved that I was wrong.
