I'm curious how people in this group go about responding to guys/girls on
non-herpes dating site, like match.com. I tried putting 437737 in my
profile, so I'd feel comfortable enough to add pics. But no one seems to
think anything of it.

So my question, then, is what do you say when you want to reply to someone
who's interested? Just something like "Hi, thanks for responding to my
ad...is HSV a problem for you?" Any suggestions on a tactful, up-front way
to approach it?

Thanks so much!

Well to tell the truth, I also put 437737 in my ad that I had on a
non-herpes site last spring and either no one without herpes knew what it
meant or no one really responded in reference to it. I think alot of people
with herpes don't even know what it means. I guess its more a secret code if
you are "in the loop" so to speak. I really don't even think people know
what HSV is, after all when I told people that I have genital herpes, they
seem to know what that means, but when I said I also have genital HPV, they
ask what it is. You might try going to an H site also, just to see. One I
like is www.afterh.com. You don't really have to limit yourself to people
with herpes, but it makes it alot easier, and sometimes its something like
that, which makes it all happen. Its kind of like when you see people with
other handicaps socializing together, or how certain ethnic backgrounds seem
to congregate in certain neighborhoods, like Italians on Federal Hill in RI.
Sometimes people without H seem to think that its the end of the world if
you get herpes or hpv, and its really not, and this is coming from a guy who
really suffered initially! I am doing alot better thankfully...

I haven't had much luck with afterH....but I did recently discover MPWH.com
(Meet People With Herpes). That site is awesome for those of you who
haven't checked it out yet! I don't know what area you're from, but in my
area (New England) there are way more matches on MPWH than on afterH. As
far as using Match.com goes, I just want to keep my options open. I know
not every non-H guy has a problem with H girls. =)

I approach it just like any other type of dating. If you meet someone
interesting in the grocery store and begin talking to his person, do you say,
"Is hsv a problem for you?"

After a few dates, if you think the person is interesting, and you'd like to
continue seeing them, then you can have the talk.
