I couldn't believe it when my 73 year old friend who had a heart
operation no more than 2 or three years ago was prescribed Coumadin.

He may appear as strong as an ox the way he runs around town, taking
buses, going to free food eats and abusing the medicare system when he
ses hes goin to a doctors appointment so he can get free cab service and
calling an abulance so he can be sure to get a hospital bed with a
nurses loving care, a hot shower, cable tv and UMC's "World Class Menu"
and he is quite talkative but he didn't deserve it when the judge
ordered him on mental health meds.

Can you believe it: Now they're giving him Resperidol and the Coumadin
together! I read on Wiki that R. is (not just maybe) dangerous to your
heart, especially if you have a pre-existing heart condition. My
neighbor is a retired RN and she said she stopped they thought
prescribing it years ago because it is dangerous. She said the Coumadin
and the Resperidol taken together can cause bleeding! It seems as if
they want to kill him! Like--get rid of the nuisance! He is very
special to me and many other people.

I know that Coumadin is RAT POISON. Waiting to hear about the
alternative treatment you are taking as well as anyone who may have
advice as to how he can exercise any rights he might have to get off the
Resperidol and take the other treatment.

the doctor has me taking aspirin as a blood thinner... said it's
statistically almost as good at preventing clotting/strokes as the
coumadin, and not nearly as dangerous re: a bad bleed (like if I fall
and bump my head) I have atrial fibrillation episodes, and that can
cause clotting which can cause a stroke, so I need the blood thinners
(anti-coagulant actually) to help prevent that from happening if/when
I go into atrial fib.

While primary prevention recommendations have been based on estimated
risks and benefits of aspirin treatments, the current study actually
analyzed the effects of the treatment in 22 studies involving more than
100,000 participants. Six of the studies involved 95,000 people with a
low to average risk of heart attack or stroke -- the typical primary
prevention population -- and the other 16 involved 17,000 people who had
already experienced at least one heart attack or stroke.

In both groups, taking an aspirin a day decreased the risk of a serious
vascular event by about 20 percent in both men and women. It also
increased the risk of gastric bleeding by about 33 percent.

In the lower-risk group, this came out to five fewer serious vascular
events each year per 10,000 people taking a daily aspirin. It also meant
three extra cases of gastric bleeding, however, and one extra stroke
caused by internal bleeding. This led the researchers to conclude that
the risks and benefits of the treatment were equivalent.
