Hi, I had a question. My dad has had a stint put in his arteries. He's had
several minor heartattacks. He's 83 years old. He's thinking of visiting two
of his sponsored children in La Paz, Bolivia. The altitude is about 14,000
feet or about 4000 meters high. He asked his heart specialist in Holland, if
he could go. The doctor said, that as long as he takes it easy, that it
shouldn't be a problem. The doctor also said that he has a heart of a 53
year old person.

I was in La Paz last July and I had a bit of a hard time with the altitude
and had to go from El Alto to La Paz and eat a lot of coco leaves. I felt
like there was a big box on top of my chest there the entire time.

Does anyone have a suggestion on this? Should he get a second opinion? Or is
Angina totally unrelated to altitude sickness?

I can say that he was in Mexico City last February at an altitude of about
7,000 feet or 2,000 meters without any problems. Of course, I didn't have
problems there either.
