I hope it is all right to post about a pet that died years ago. Today
(July 3rd) is the anniversary of the death of my beloved dog companion,
Puppy Joe. We had planned to keep Puppy Joe in on the night of July 4th
as there were always guns and fireworks going off.

We have a completely fenced yard and he never got out before, but
somebody decided to jump the gun and fired shots that scared Puppy Joe
so badly he must have gone over the fence. I got a call from the
Emergency Animal Clinic that evening that he had been brought in by
someone whose car had hit him. It was wonderful of them to do that.
They said he was OK and we could come and bring him home. After we paid
the bills, they brought him out. I could tell the minute I saw Puppy
Joe that he was not OK. His eyes were completely glazed and unable to
recognize me. I told them to take him back, he was not OK. That
horrible vision of his glazed eyes haunts me to this day. Puppy Joe
died about an hour later of internal hemorrhage.

He was such a beautiful and wonderful dog. He was a shepherd collie
mix. He had long black hair and he was very intelligent and loving. He
was totally voice trained and all I had to do was say, "it's time Puppy
Joe" and he would go stand by the door to go out for the night. One
time he even dropped a steak out of his mouth when I told him to. He
loved me and he loved to do what I wanted him to. He was very
precious. He loved to "herd" me with little non-painful, pinching type
nips when I was bringing in the groceries after the store. He loved to
sit with his head in my lap. I loved him so much.

Certain animals really make an impression on my heart. Puppy Joe was
one of those animals and so was my rabbit, Red Bunny. It's an awesome
thing to be truly loved by an innocent animal. To lose that love is
almost unbearable in this hard-edged world.

Thanks to all of you for being there. I'm so grateful we can help each
other get through these things. I'm glad to find people who
understand. Anniversary's are hard for me. -Chris

Dear Chris.

Of course it's alright to post here for an animal who died years ago. Why would
it not be?
Puppy Joe sounds like such a wonderful, loving dog. How old was he when he
died?
Do you have any furbabies now?
Talk to us about Puppy Joe (I love that name!)

Chris,

You're always welcome to post about a furbaby, whether recently lost, lost
years ago, or even still with you. We love all furchildren, and are happy to
hear of them.

I'm sure Puppy Joe is watching over you from the Bridge, marking the
anniversary of your parting himself, and hoping you realize how he loves and
misses you as you love and miss him.

Thanks for sharing his story with us. Peace to you and your furangels.

Love,
Rocky's Amy
