Soy is used in a large numbers of foods. Look for soy oil, soya oil, soy
lecithin amongst others. Almost all chocolate uses soy lecithin so is best
avoided.
Soy flour is used in some foods, and the ingrediants "food starch"
"vegetable starch" and "natural flavors" can all contain soy.
Tofu is made from soybeans so be careful about foods labeled as vegetarien
or vegan since they will often contain tofu.
Asian cooking uses soy sauce in a lot of dishes, don't forget that Tamari
sauce is soy sauce.
Also look out for anythng with miso or tempeh in it as both refer to
prepared soy.
Soy oil is now incredibly cheap, be wary of foods labeled as containing
Vegetable oil. Fried foods are usually cooked in whatever oil is cheapest
so unless you know the oil used to cook with you probably want to avoid it.
I've seen literature that, for no reason I can understand, claims soy oil is
safe to cook with for people who are intolerant to soy. My personal
experience is that soy oil will set off a reaction even in small amounts.
My reactions are usually skin related with rashes on face, arms around the
elbows and legs around the knees.
