Shania joins no-sex cult

Country-singing sexpot Shania Twain has joined a bizarre no-sex
cult--and her family is frightened that she's being turned into a
"robot".
That's the bombshell revelation of her worried brother who told The
ENQUIRER that his beautiful sister was introduced to the extreme group
by her own husband!
"I am very concerned for my sister," declared Darryl Twain, 26, in a
blockbuster exclusive interview. "That's why I am speaking out now.
I want my sister back!"
The wacko cult, called Sant Mat, preaches total vegetarianism,
abstinence from alcohol and drugs, hours of daily meditation and,
shockingly, no sex, not even in marriage.
The strange sect, which practices a 500-year-old form of Indian yoga,
requires members to keep a daily confessional diary in which they
record the hours spent in meditation and divulge whether they have had
sex or violated any of the cult's rules.
The highly personal report must be handed in to their guru!
"Family members are deeply worried," Darryl told The ENQUIRER. "We're
afraid that Shania has been dominated by the cult and has become like
a robot, following their extreme beliefs."
Darryl blames Robert John "Mutt" Lange, Shania's husband of six years
and a Sant Mat practitioner. According to Darryl, Shania never played
the role of doting older sister but after Mutt turned her on to the
cult, she grew heartbreakingly cold and distant.
"Mutt calls all the shots--and Shania follows along," fumed Darryl.
"Shania is not the same--and it's all because of that weird Sant Mat
cult."
Calling the group "weird" is putting it mildly.
Anticult activist Steve Hassan, author of "Releasing the Bonds:
Empowering People To Think For themselves," told The ENQUIRER: "Sant
Mat preaches complete abstinence from sex, even in marriage, except
for when a couple are trying to have children."
Told only that this article was about a female star involved with Sant
Mat, the expert warned, "This celebrity's family has cause for
concern. Wherever there is a radical personality change, you need to
look into it.
"If there is a guru influencing her, she could be in great danger."
A large branch of Sant Mat, headed by Guru Thakar Singh, was
penetrated by German journalist Lorenz Knauer, who told The ENQUIRER:
"Sant Mat followers meditate for hours every day, and believe that sex
detracts from their meditation."
Darryl and his brother Mark are half-brothers to Shania, who was born
Eilleen Regina Edwards, daughter of Sharon and Clarence Edwards, on
Aug. 28, 1965.
After divorcing Edwards, Sharon married Ojibwa Indian Jerry Twain.
They had two boys--Mark and Darryl.
Mark was in a horrendous car crash with Sharon and Jerry on Nov. 1,
1987. Only Mark survived.
Shania has proudly trumpeted that she took over as surrogate mother
and father after that, caring for her younger siblings--but Darryl
says that's a load of country baloney.
"Shania claims she raised me, but that's a lie," he told The ENQUIRER.
"She shipped me off to military school and I ran away, got into
trouble joy-riding in cars and ended up in a group home for troubled
teenagers.
"I was there for two years and Shania never contacted me or visited
me--not once.
"And when I got out of the home, I was on my own."
Even as an adult, Darryl, an expert at designing firework displays,
didn't always have a warm relationship with his sister.
Once he was even fired while working on fireworks for her concert.
Three years ago, Darryl was arrested and charged with trying to steal
cars--a charge Darryl still denies. He served five months--another
time in which he says he never heard from his famous sister.
Darryl now lives in a run-down, walk-up apartment in an area of
Winnipeg, called the "War Zone," known for gang activity and crime.
He has no car, and he and his girlfriend are struggling to raise a
foster daughter.
When he isn't doing firework displays, Darryl works as an electrician.
His brother Mark is an electrician in Bellingham, Wash.
A source close to the family conformed: "Mutt's influence and that
Sant Mat cult turned Shania away from her brothers and changed her
sense of family values."
Happily they've recently become closer--and Shania invited Darryl to
visit with her last Christmas at her palatial Swiss mansion (story at
left).
But he was disturbed when he saw firsthand the hold the cult has on
her.
Summing up his fears and disappointment, a distraught Darryl told The
ENQUIRER: "Now I'm even more concerned for Shania than I was before.
"I feel like I don't have a sister anymore. I want Shania back."
