I started doing castor oil packs a couple of weeks ago. I kept reading
raves on this newsgroup and on various "alternative healing" web
sites.

However, the day after starting them, I started spotting. I can't
remember the last time I had spotting- so it was sometime when I
was a teenager, if at all. I kept up with the packs thinking that
it was coincidental, and then I remembered that a former co-worker
who described "alternative healing" of her cervical cancer said that
during treament, she had gooey, dark spotting- which is what I had
to start with. But as it became more like "normal bleeding" (red
rather than brown/black, less gooey), I stopped the packs, and
decided to have a period (I'm on continual doses of BCPs).

Has anyone had a similar experience? Should I start the packs
again after my period and see what happens? Avoid the castor oil
altogether and stick with the heating pad? None of the above?

O too tried the CO packs. I did not have spotting but also was not on
bcp's. I did get severe cramping, so I stopped. I have found better
luck with Chaste Berry tincture. 4 drops in water 3-4 times a day. It
has given me more energy. I noticed a difference in about 4 days. I
also have found using ice packs help more for my pain than the heating
pad. Most of what is going on in there is swelling and ice is better
than heat for that. My stomach swells so big I look like I am ready to
give birth. I know we are all best friends with our heating pads but
after i broke tha habit I found much releif from the the ice packs.
Good luck
Kim

I have had an excellent experience with castor oil packs. They are not to be
used during bleeding at all. I also have acupuncture treatments and use chinese
herbal formulas prescribed by my acupuncturist. The castor oil packs supposedly
work the same way as acupuncture in the sense that they assist in breaking up a
stagnation in the pelvic area and in the blood. (All chinese medicine talk,
sorry the only way I know how to describe it.) When I first started the
acupuncture, I had similar spotting. My acupuncturist said that "things were
moving around and the lesions were breaking up." I'm certainly not an expert in
the field, but I know what has worked for me. I had such pain even after my lap
last March that my ob/gyn wanted me to take Lupron shots. No way...wasn't for
me! All I needed were menopausal symptoms on top of everything else!.I looked
into alternative means and I'm so glad I did! I've been pain free even during
my period the last two months! I used to be in chronic pain all month. I also
take epsom salt baths several times a week.
Using castor oil packs in the pelvic area (on the the liver) is also supposed
to help raise the immune system. I'd give the castor oil packs a try.Be sure to
use cold-pressed oil, not the classic "laxative" oil at the drug store.
Alternative medicine is not immediate, like a pill. It needs to be regarded the
same way as therapy.
Best wishes,
Diane

Can Castor Oil Packs help with post-surgical adhesions. I will be having
surgery soon, and tend to get so many adhesions. I heard that possibly
Castor Oil Packs could help with breaking up the adhesions right after
surgery? Thanks, Jeannie

Diane,

I am very interested in giving the Castor Oil packs a try. How should I use it
exactly? Every day, for how long? Where can I buy it? Sorry for all these
questions.

I've heard that castor oil packs are useful for women with lesions, adhesions
and fibroids to name a few ailments. I first read about them in Christina
Northrup's book Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom.I never saved my links while I
was researching on the web or I would post them. I look around since I did
print out all of my info.

I've been using the castor oil packs for about a month and have been
feeling great lately. I switched my diet a few weeks ago as well, so
I'm not exactly sure if it's a combination. I do know that the hot
pack feels great and is one of the only ways of getting rid of the
pain. A friend of mine brought me the oil and said that an Indian
Medicine woman had told her to give it to me. The instructions I got
were: apply oil to a cloth, put this on the effected area, cover with
plastic then put hot water bottle on top. Do this at least once daily
for six days then have one day off. Repeat. I'm not sure if there is a
limit how long you can continue to do this. I've been doing it for
over a month. Hope you get good results!
