This may have been discussed here before, but as I am rather new, I thought
I'd go ahead and ask anyway. Sorry, but I don't really feel like sifting
through thousands of back posts for an answer (I have another migraine
headache), so I will greatly appreciate any feedback. Which brings me to my
point. My doctor thinks these chronic headaches may be caused by a recently
discovered thyroid problem (the count was low). I go for more in-depth
tests Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. He thinks it is a possibility that
the Lupron may have caused this thyroid imbalance. I guess I will find out
in another two weeks! Meanwhile, I was wondering if anyone else has heard
of this happening? My PCP thinks I should postpone my second shot of Lupron
(I'm on the every three months), which is due on the 20th. Unfortunately, I
can't get my Gyn's opinion because he is out of the country until the 19th
(go figure). Any other opinions out there? I'm sure there are, so thank
you in advance.
one very tired Annabelle.

Hi Annabelle.....

Welcome to the group.

There seems to be a link between thyroid problems and Endo, so I don't know if
the Lupron was the cause or not.

I hope they figure out what is going on and get you better!!!!! If there is
any suspicion that the Lupron is causing the Thyroid problems, then I agree,
don't get the next one....I'm not a Dr. though. I would talk with the GYN when
he comes back in. You can go in on the 20th as planned and discuss it at that
point if you can't get him on the phone the day prior.

Good luck and I hope this helped.

Hugs,
Robin

Welcome Annabelle,

Lupron has been shown to cause migraines, so it may not have much to do with
the thyroid, but just the Lupron. I would think the thyroid problem could
cause migraines too, but since you are on Lupron it is probably the cause.
Also did the thyroid problem just start? Lupron can cause many problems,
but you've only been on it a month, so I'm not sure if the thyroid problem
could have occurred so soon after only one shot. I wish I could offer more,
but I'm sure someone here can help. I wish you the very best. I hope you
find relief and answers soon.

Carey

Hi,
I had a thyroid problem before I took lupron and it didn't seem to change while
I was on it...BUT I do think it is very possible for that to happen. The
thyroid is a regulator of so many things in the body, I don't think it takes
much to throw it off. It could be a temporary thing, or it could have been
underlying and the lupron brought it out more. Thyroid problems are becoming
more and more recognized, and often go undiagnosed (does that sound familiar,
ladies?) The testing is usually blood work and sometimes if they feel your
thyroid is enlarged they will have you get a sonogram done - pretty easy and
painless. If they find something wrong, they may take a wait and see approach
but if you're having symptoms they might suggest starting on a thyroid
medication. If they do, you should be checked often at first to make sure
you're not getting too much medication. Hope that helps a bit. Good luck.

Annabelle,

Please listen to your PCP! If history is any indication, you gyne will tell
you that lupron has nothing to do with your health problems, and go on to
encourage you to complete the shots! From my own experience, this is what
happened. Although, my thyroid was not in question, it was a myriad of
other health problems. I developed pain all over my body after my third
lupron injection. The pain was similar to that associated with rheumatoid
arthritis. When I called my gyne to report this pain and ask if it wasdue
to lupron, he told me no and encouraged that I continue with lupron.

I did visit my PCP totry and determine a cause for my pain and he advised
that I discontinue lupron. Fortunately, I listened to the PCP. But it was
already too latefor me. The four-year anniversary of my lupron experience
iscoming up and I'm still experiencing health problems as a result of it.
One of my major complaints is migraine-like headaches.

My advice is to following the directions of your PCP and go for any work-ups
he/she advises.

I had also developed problems immediately after my first injection and
really wish I had discontinued lupron at that point instead of going on to
receive 2 more shots. Perhaps I would not have developed long-term problems
from it.

You may have had a borderline thyroid problem before lupron and lupron
pushed it over the edge. But I am a strong believer in coincidenses - ie,
you were fine before this injection and now you have developed a thyroid
problem. Listen to your body; it's trying to tell you something.

Just a quick note. Morphing is against all TOS agreements. Infer what you
