Since Friday, I've had this nagging, constant pain in the right side of
my abdomen--maybe about halfway between the hip bone and pubic bone,
probably closer to the hip bone. It feels like it might be an ovarian
pain, but I'm not sure. Though the pain is constant and fairly mild, it
becomes momentarily quite sharp when I'm going potty (#1 or #2).
Yesterday I thought it was radiating into my back, but it's hard to tell
because my back always hurts (muscular reasons). Come to think of it,
the pain seems to be starting to diminish today.
What I want to know is (from those of you who can identify ovarian cyst
or ovulation pain), does this sound like ovarian pain? I rarely
ovulate, so I don't know what mittleschmerz is like in terms of
duration, type of pain, etc. I had an ovarian cyst drained during my
lap last year, but I can't remember feeling this kind of pain before the
cyst was drained.
For those of you who have had appendicitis or kidney problems--does this
sound anything like those problems? I only wonder about appendicitis
because of the fact that it's on the right side, though I haven't had
any other symptoms (nausea, intense pain, fever, etc.). And I only
wonder about a kidney thing because of the fact that I might have felt
it in my back, and because I take buttloads of NSAIDs, which I
understand can cause kidney problems.
Thanks for your patience w/this long post...I really appreciate this
forum as a place to get solid info! Painfree days to you all...

When I had appendicitis as a kid, the pain wasn't localized, nor was it
very strong. I didn't have any appetite, but wasn't nauseated, and I
don't remember any fever. The pelvic exam did localize the pain where the
appendix was, so they took it out.
Appendicitis can be sub-acute, and treated with antibiotics rather than
surgery.
The important thing is, where exactly is the pain. If it is low down,
it's more likely to be appendicitis - ovaries tend to be higher up and
near the front. Kidneys are quite high up and near the back.
If the pain continues, call a doctor. If it goes away, call for an
appointment around the right time next month, and mention the pain and
your concern. A blood test will show whether you have elevated white
cells (sign of infection).

Your right-side pain does sound ovarian to me. Sometimes ovulation hurts for a
few days, and this can be normal. But yours sounds like an ovarian cyst to me,
for what it's worth. Glad the pain is diminishing.
It does NOT sound like you have kidney trouble, so don't worry. I researched
kidney problems for my right side pain I've had for over a year, and it is
virtually never abdominal. I can tell you what kidney infections feel like,
having had two: backache first, then very high fever and chills, the flu x
10!. Best, vivia
