Dear Dr Chung

At what stage should you have heart valve repair done? I had minor heart
valve leakage about 10 years ago, but now the doctor had another ultra sound
done on my heart and I had a call that my valve leakage had worsened and he
wanted a stress test done, which I did last week. It seemed to me, that I
did well, but was told that the doctor would call me. Then two days later, I
had a call saying that he would like to see me Sept 14. So it cannot be too
serious, but at the same time it leaves me just hanging there, not knowing
what is going on. My question is, at what point is it recommended to repair
the heart valve. What is considered mild or severe .How do you evaluate?
How do you read the report? I have not the report yet, but will ask for it
when I see him. Should I wait till it gets real bad and when I will be real
old or should I be more assertive and ask to do it when I am still strong
and not to old and feeble. I am 72 year old male.

I am not out of breath, but get easily tired. I have atrial fibrillation and
use Amiodarone for it. I am on high blood pressure medication (Atacand 16 mg
twice a day).

Your reply would be very much appreciated

Ben
