i talked to comcast rep. online who said they offer discounts to the
low-income/disabled. J. calls comcast and the person she talks with
and a manager both tell her this isn't true. so i'm not sure how to
move forward.
i'm borrowing J's fan, but it's too loud and i can't hear the tv over
it. a swamp cooler is about soundless right?
maybe i need to take the remainder of my extra money and spend it on
ac or a swamp cooler.
i'm just not sure how to make all this stuff work and it's hard.
Do you have any local fibre optic ISP's in the area? Here, there is one
which provides higher speeds than comcast for twenty dollars less than
them, but the cost of installation is more.

They can be quieter. Depends on their size. (We would take one over a
fan anyday.)

It will take time. (We are trying to find the money to buy an A/C unit
or small swamp cooler, and have been for months, and we've been here
over a year. We really miss central air.)

wow. sounds like a good deal. i hear that at this apartment building,
comcast is kinda the only game in town.

they can just sit on the ground, right, in the apartment?

yeah. our last apartment building had an ac. we miss that.
we don't miss the craziness from the agency the apartment was through,
though.
we also have this surround sound system. and we're not sure how to
hook it up to the vcr/dvd player. do you know how? the vcr seems to
have an outlet for audio, so J. said maybe I just need the chord for
that? she said she has a surround sound system too, and she can't
figure out how to hook it to her dvd player/vcr either.

That's why installation costs more with other places. They have to run
the lines in.

Not an A/C unit because of how they work unless you get a $400 one, but
those still need tubes run to the window.
There are swamp coolers that work well indoors. Not all will, but you
can get a decent one for around $100 that can be moved around indoors.

We will be happy to move when they need to do construction here. They
are starting on the other side first.

If you can get a model number, we can see. Otherwise we would be just
guessing. We have everything running through our stereo, and used to
help people set these things up over the phone.

wow. sounds like we need a swamp cooler then and not an ac.

wow! do you know what type of place i would go to to get one?
Dave saw one at a pawn shop for 300 -- sounds like we could find a
better deal.

yeah. hope the other place is better. sounds like it is from what
you've said in another post.

okay. where do i find the model number?

A swamp cooler will also cost less electricity.

The place we saw the one we are going to get is at newegg.com
This is the one we are going to get:

They own five or six buildings downtown. It could be any of them, but we
would hope it would be a better one.

It might say it on the front or on the back. Likely something like
Yamaha RX-V363.

maybe we'll transfer some money to our savings account and order that
one online. didn't even occur to me that i could order one online
rather than go to a store and get one. thanks! that one looks good. it
would provide good cooling, you think?

yes.

Philips

Yes, probably not to the whole apartment, but at least to the room, and
it would be quieter than the fan. Has wheels too, so it can be moved to
other rooms.
We want to get one from online more than a store because then the
delivery guy will bring it up the stairs for us. :)

They have one just up the street they just renovated, and it looks very
nice now. Especially from the condition it was in before. (They'd
probably put us in that one so they wouldn't have to to pay a lot of
moving expenses.)

Ok, we are looking. Don't see anything about it yet. If it's just a
subwoofer, it won't work well for that. (Depending on how expensive of a
subwoofer it is though, it could be traded at a pawn broker for a stereo
that would.)

hmm. how do i identify a stereo that would work? of course, once we
have a swamp cooler, the fan won't be so loud and we might be fine
with just the sound from the tv.
J. says the surround sound system seems to cost around about 250. but
now the dvd player connected with it is broken. any ideas?
>
> --
> -slunky
It would just need some auxilary inputs on the back. Usually jacks that
match the ones in the back of what you need to connect.
> J. says the surround sound system seems to cost around about 250. but

Not sure. We were never very good at fixing DVD players.

yay yay yay -- J and I found an ac for 90 dollars at a pawn shop, and
she has an alter that will install it on wednesday for the cost of the
sealant and 20 dollars. we're gonna go to the store with her and stuff
on wednesday and then to a dr. appt. she asked us to be with her for.
yay! *and* she brought a cord that hooks the surround sound to the
vcer and dvd player. yay yay yay!!! :) :)
Good! :) You will have a very nice place.
--
-slunky
yeah! :)
and i don't have to pay utilities, so i won't have to pay for running
of the ac.
Cool! We had $300 a month electric bills last month because we had two
before the second one blew up.
