When I wrote the date on the classroom board today I wrote 5/7/then my
birth year. Today is my birthday. I laughed at myself then started
thinking about happy memories from elementary school. Of course my
brain did a selective trip down memory lane. I really wonder how
often I spend an entire day not looking back in one way or another.
Today my brain dredged up happiness from the past, others days it is
pain. Sometimes I feel all the *what ifs* about many things. Maybe I
should start meditating again. Ideas?

More thoughts on this:

we are always creating our own *present*.

at our best we choose what to pay attention to, what to ignore,
what thoughts and feelings to pay attention to, again at our best
functioning.
paying attention to something painful from the past is still *my
present*
paying attention to a good memory is still my present
