My mother is 95 y.0. ,and has had a suddenly vascular dementia one year ago.
She is by 5 years incontinent and uses diapers .In novemmber 2010 felt down and broke a femour neck. From then she uses a foley catheter to avoid bed wounds because she is about 16 hours/day in bed even does much exercices and sits on rolling chair.Catheter is for me a nightmare,I see strange things coming out, white ,red, but not flowing blood,in other words always urinary tract infection by E.coli (1 M cfu).I found that caterization is not raccomanded to avoid bed wounds ,but only in case of already existing 3 -4 degree wounds. So i want keep catheter away .My question is :WILL SHE HAVE MINTION AGAIN ? In Italian hospitals they use a so called bladder training before decatheter, consisting in clamping for 2 hours and then let drain ,but experts says is useless.
I also heard talking of neurologic bladder ,but not believe is her problem.
Thanks for your help
Nino
