Dec 12, 1997 ROSIE THE RIVETER MEMORIAL: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS The City
of Richmond, California invites qualifications from West Coast artists
for a memorial to honor the contributions of American Women to the War
effort during WWII. The ROSIE THE RIVETER MEMORIAL will honor the
efforts of all women on the home front, and specifically the women who
worked in Richmond's shipbuilding industry, in a permanent, site
specific artwork to be located in the Richmond Marina at the former
location of the Richmond Kaiser Shipyards. They are looking for a
project that commemorates the rich history of American Women's war
efforts and in particular their work at the Kaiser shipyards --
artwork that visually enhances the area without limiting views to the
Bay; artwork that is permanent, weather-resistant and requires minimum
maintenance. They anticipate that the final project may include former
shipyard workers and community members. The Memorial Project budget of
$180,000 will include the artists fee and all costs associated with
the design, fabrication, and installation of the Memorial. Artists or
artist teams, who live in California, Oregon and Washington, are
invited to submit a letter of interest not longer than one page
describing an approach to the project along with their slides, resumes
and other materials for consideration. For more details about
