Oct 01, 1997 The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars
seeks to commemorate through its residential fellowship program both
the scholarly depth and the public concerns of Woodrow Wilson. As
President Wilson wrote, "The man who has the time, the discrimination,
and the sagacity to collect and comprehend the principal facts, and
the man who must act upon them, must draw near to one another and feel
that they are engaged in a common enterprise." The Center awards
approximately 35 fellowships annually in an international competition
to individuals with outstanding project proposals representing the
entire range of scholarship, with a strong emphasis on the humanities
and social sciences. The Center especially welcomes projects that
transcend narrow specialties. STIPEND. The Woodrow Wilson Center
seeks to follow the principle of no gain/no loss in terms of a
Fellow's previous year's salary. However, the combination of limited
funds and a ceiling established by the U.S. Congress makes it
essential for most applicants to seek supplementary sources of
funding: sabbatical support, other fellowships, or foundation grants.
In no case can the Center's stipend exceed $62,000; the average yearly
stipend is approximately $43,000. In addition, the Center provides
travel expenses and 75% of health insurance premiums for Fellows,
their spouses, and their dependent children. FURTHER INFORMATION AND
APPLICATION FORMS MAY BE OBTAINED FROM: The Fellowships Office, The
Woodrow Wilson Center, 1000 Jefferson Drive SW, SI MRC 022, Washington

Oct 31, 1997 *NEW* D.FILM Digital Film Festival is seeking short films
made using technology in new ways. This includes digital/desktop
video, non-linear editing, 2-D and 3-D Animation, digital cameras and
weird cameras like Pixelvision and Tyco. We're looking for work from
people who are really pushing the envelope to develop new and exciting
styles of film. This year the festival will be screened in New York,
LA, San Francisco, Boston, San Diego, London and Rio. The entry
deadline is ongoing and there is no entry fee. Much has been written
in the press lately about the high profile digital effects seen in
feature films like the Star Wars re-release or Jurassic Park. D.FILM
focuses on the opposite side of this phenomenon. What happens when the
power of that technology falls into the hands of everyday people -
artists, musicians, non-filmmakers? D.FILM is a new festival from Low
Res Digital Film Festival Producer/Co-Founder Bart Cheever, with the
combined talents of Low Res Graphic Artist David Weissburg and Low Res
Web Architect Cindy Kawakami. Last year Low Res was presented at the
DGA in Hollywood, Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Pacific Film
Archive in Berkeley, The Kitchen in New York, the ICA in London and as
a part of the 25th International Film Festival in Rotterdam. Low Res
is now defunct. Entry forms and further information about D.FILM are

The Art Deadlines List is edited and published by Richard Gardner.

If you are an artist who produces work for sale, then consider a two
week FREE advertisement at the top of the ART DEADLINES LIST. The best
way to do this is to provide a URL pointing to your page on the web.
If you don't have a page on the web then consider hiring me to make
one for you.

For $100 your page will be on the web for 12 months and include:

1) a page (8.5 x 11) of text describing your art/project/enterprise
(don't forget to include telephone, FAX, pager, email address, postal
address, UPS address, etc)

2) a photograph of your friendly staff, product, service, etc

3) submission of your page to a dozen of the best search engines on
the web

4) a free email address on the World Wide Web (and you don't even need
your own computer)

5) additional pages, text, and pictures at very reasonable rates

6) two months of free advertising on the ART DEADLINES LIST and the
ART & CULTURAL EVENTS LIST (http://rtuh.com/aacel) web page, worth a
total of $90

7) free one-year ART DEADLINES LIST email subscription, worth $12

Is there an annual OPEN STUDIOS near you? If so, please send me
information about how to contact the organizers so I can add the event
to my OPEN STUDIOS AROUND THE WORLD page.
