Does WW treat calories from sugar alcohols different from other sugars?

Not in the US but I do think in Europe or England they have a limited
alcohol limit.

In the US you just need to calculate the points for what it is you
drink.

In Australia we have a 14 point weekly limit on sugar *and* alcohol. That's
not in addition to our regular points, but included within the range. So,
for example, a standard 100mL glass of wine is one regular point, which also
must be counted as one sugar/alcohol point.

In over a year that I've been doing this I haven't had a single week where
I've managed to stay under the 14 point limit. This may be why my weekly
average loss is so low :)

I think the others posting don't know what you mean.....
I work with a guy who is on the "Atkins Diet"(low carb) and I recall him
saying he can have
certain "special made" candies and other things made with "sugar
alcohols" because they don't
count as carbs for him(Atkins Diet)....(maybe called alcohol sugar).
I think David means this, and it doesn't have anything to do with "booze".

No. WW (in the US) makes no distinction between calories derived from
any source.

Oh, absolutely :) I'm like Lee - I didn't want to change anything during
weightloss that I couldn't maintain for the rest of my life. Giving up wine
and chocolate to that extent is just never going to work for me!

I think Atkins may be the only diet that makes that distinction. They don't
count them as Carbs. I read somewhere that they aren't really carbs but the
FDA does not know how to classify them so they require food manufacturers to
list them as carbs.

Good outlook. I have cut down substantially on both sweets
(chocolate, gummy bears, dried fruits (these are making a comeback)
and savory stuff (cheese and potato chips). Can I live that way - I
shall see because the amounts before were out of control.

This is why I refuse to do anything I can't do forever. If you do not see
the rest of your life without those types of points to cut them out for
faster weightloss would be setting yourself up to fail. I am just convinced
that it is better to lose slower living the life you intend to live with the
changes you can make forever rather than going for a quick loss that is
based on a false way of living,

I agree with you on this point. If you can't live with it the rest of your
life then what you are doing is a DIET and not a WOL. Once you reach goal
you'll just start eating the old way and gain it all back.
