I am thinking of starting weight watchers online. I was wondering what the
support system is like. I need all of the support that I can get. I would
like to lose 50lbs. I just had my last baby 6 months ago and its time for a
change. I go to the gym at least 4 times a week and now I need to take
control of my eating. I would join WW and go to the actual meetings, but
I would feel more comfortable doing this at home for now. Thanks.

Highest:200 (when pregnant)
Current:180
Goal: 130 (125 would be nice too!)

Hi

In my experience it depends on your willpower.

I first went to WW in 1996 attending meetings every week. However about 10
months later after doing it at home I lost the will and tasted KFC after a
long time which was the end of the diet.

I am now on my third week at home and finding it quite easy going. I have
resisted the cravings for high fat stuff and lost 11lbs in the first
fortnight.

The reason I have started is to get in trim for my wedding at the end of
summer. I dont want to look at my wedding photo and then decide to go on a
diet because I look so large. I want to look great for the photos in the
first place. It helps if you have someone to buddy up with which means that
you are less likely to cheat as you dont want to let the other person down.

I find this group a great deal of support. Everyone is ready to encourage
everyone and share thoughts and ideas making it that much easier and fun.

My intentions are to do this at home for a month or two and then go to the
meetings. I am doing it this way because I do not think my will power will
last long enough to go all the way to my goal weight and starting the
meetings will give a renewed sense of determination.

My thoughts

You will not regret joining and remember as my old leader used to say " you
met your ideal weight going up, now its time to go back down"

Good luck

Matt

Hi Tabitha. Congratulations on your new baby! I just joined this group a
couple of days ago, and the supportive attitudes you find here are amazing.
It will probably take a little extra oomphf (trying to spell a sound
here...) for you to work the program without the meetings and formal weekly
weigh-ins, but the points plan itself is easy to grasp and follow. Do you
have a friend (maybe another new mom) with whom you could rendezvous for
weigh-ins? I find the knowledge I have to be accountable for my choices on
the scale in front of a "live audience" to be a profound motivator. And you
can't underestimate the benefits of the buddy system.

At the risk of sounding mom-ish myself, though, if you're breast-feeding,
make sure you run the plan by your doctor to ensure you're getting all those
necessary nutrients for you and baby. I'm pretty sure the plan allots extra
points to breast-feeding moms for that purpose. Good Luck and Welcome.

I do weight watchers online and love it so far. I am just creeping up
on the 1 month mark, have found it to work very well for me. Make sure
you journal daily, and write down EVERYTHING you ingest - kind of makes
you think about what you are going to put in your mouth. I was also
worried about the support issues, was pointed to this ng by a good
friend of mine. This is what I need to keep me going in a positive
direction. The support is wonderful.

I don't know anything about the online group because I go to the meetings!
I need the support and companionship of others in my situation that I find
there! The people at my meetings are in the same boat as me and I know when
I go that nobody is going to look at me and think that I'm fat because just
about everyone is having the same problem. The people in my group are
empathetic and share tips and comfort with each other. I wouldn't miss it
for anything!

If you haven't been to WW before you might want to start with going to
meetings at first if you can. I just joined online and I am loving it, but
I had been to meetings before and knew the program pretty well. Also, I
find this group to be a better support system than the meetings, probably
because I really didn't feel comfortable speaking up in the meetings. You
might want to try the meetings and then switch to online once you feel
comfortable with the program. I assume they hopefully have some way to
transfer your membership from the regular meetings to online. --Anya
