Hello!
I'm new to the group, but I'm an Atkins veteran.
My experience was that yes, I lost weight; no, I didn't keep it off.
Low carb dieting can be very restrictive and very boring. In addition, there
was, for me, a craving for the occasional "sweet" treat - most of which are
not allowed on the Atkins plan.
I've turned to WW because I think it will help me to lose weight, gain
control of my portion sizes, and will be livable. I can't think of a world
without pizza or pasta or even an occasional dish of Cherry Garcia :0)
Hope this helps!

I did Atkins for a few months before turning to WW. I found Atkins too
restrictive for my lifestyle. We eat out a lot and I found it just too hard
to avoid the carbs especially the hidden ones. I did lose about 10 pounds
last summer but the moment I went off of it the pounds started to creep back
on. So now I am starting over again at about the same spot I was at last
summer.

I have found WW easy to follow and I have never really been hungry. I get to
eat 26-31 points per day which is more food than I am used to. Some days I
have trouble getting enough points. I found that the key to not being hungry
is to have a large breakfast. I have a cup of cereal (or whatever the
serving size is for that cereal), 1 cup of fruit (strawberries and
blueberries), 1/2cup of 1% milk plus my coffee. Sometimes I add a small
handful (1point) of raisons or craisons for extra flavor for a total of
around 5 points.

For lunch I usually have a sandwich using lowfat bread (2 slices for 1point)
with Low fat ham or Turkey and lite cheese with no fat mayo plus raw veggies
on the side. Occasionally I will have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
For dessert, I have 1/2c lowfat/low sugar vanilla yogart or cottege cheese
with fruit (for another dairy serving). This usually comes to around 6 to 8
points depending on how large I make the sandwich.

And for dinner it will be some sort of meat, chicken or fish with veggies
and a skinny cow for dessert for around 9 points. That covers around 22
points. The rest of my points are spread through the afternoon and evening.
I aim for a minimum of 26 points each day to cover the several times during
the week that we eat out.

One thing that I did learn early on is to also have plenty of protein at
lunch. Originally I was bringing the WW meals to work but found that I was
hungry again in a few hours. Thats when I switched to having a sandwich
instead.

http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm suggests 136-179, so you are
about right.

There was a trial on UK TV recently .
http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/diettrials/
They came up with the conclusion that if you can stick with it then
ATKINS would get maximum weight loss over the short term but conley,
Atkins and WW all ended up about the same over the whole period the
trial lasted. They thought that men got on with Atkins best and
everyone liked the idea of WW. Most people in the trial hoped to get
on the WW group.

I've never been on Atkins, or WW for that matter.
I don't like the idea of a diet that cuts out all or most of a food
group. I also don't like commercial diets. Atkins does the former, WW
the latter. I cut down on calories but use a lot lot of the
methodology of WW.

I've never tried Atkins, but I know people who have lost considerable weight
on it. I don't think I would like it, though, since my goal is a healthier
lifestyle, including more grains and fruits and veges, and Atkins doesn't
allow that. Many of the people who drop off Atkins do so because they miss
eating a diverse diet.

As for being hungry on WW... I'm rarely hungry. At first I suffered some
hunger pangs, because I didn't know how to budget food so that I got to eat
frequently throughout the day. Now, I eat more fruits and veges and other
low points foods, and I am rarely hungry. Of course, sometimes I wish I
could eat foods that I can't, but I suspect that I would feel the same way
on Atkins. I like WW because it allows me to eat ,more or less whatever
foods I want, as long as I budget for them. I've learned a lot about
healthy eating and portion control. I can stay on this program for my
entire life, which will probably be necessary, since no diet can keep weight
off if a person resumes eating the way they used to after they los the
weight.

Whatever you choose, I wish you success in your weight loss venture. :-)

I've been on WW since October, and never really feel hungry unless I'm
cooking the next meal - a good time to be hungry, just before dinner!

With Atkins, what you eat is restricted, but with WW you can eat
ANYTHING! Nothing is forbidden or a sin, but you are advised to keep
very fatty or sugary things to a minimum and keep them for treats. Have
a treat a day!

Atkins is heavy on the protein and light on the carbohydrates, which
does not suit me at all. I don't think the Atkins diet teaches you a
healthy way to eat for the rest of your life, either, while the WW
system does. JMO, folks! :)

And my experience is that on Atkins you are not hungry, just bored, and the
regain rate is Amazing. It did not work for me. I do know a couple of
people who lost a lot of weight on it though. Didn't keep it off, but then
I know a few who lost on WW and didn't keep it off either.

I tried Atkins about 3 years ago. I could not really give up fruits.
Some of the other carbos were not really a problem. But no sweet
potatoes - not for me. Also, I found that I had no energy when I
would go hiking or x-country skiing since straight protein would not
give me early morning energy

I have lost weight just as fast on WW and do not have to give up
anything except control my portions. I have rarely been hungry and if
I have been I've added more zero point foods such as veggies or salsa
or pickles for snacks.

And then again, there are those who work with a combo program of using
WW to control points under Atkins.
