Question about insulin vial

My insulin is getting low in the vial. So my question is... How do you get
the dregs of the insulin into the vial? Or will their always be waste? Now
that I am using the shorter needles, there would be less waste, I assume.
If I were still using the longer ones, I think I would have reached the
point where when the vial is turned upside down, the tip would not make
contact with the insulin to draw it in. Thanks!

Why are you looking for another excuse to create drama out of nothing?

As Julie has not used a vial before, this is, certainly, a reasonable
rquetion to ask on a diabetes group where others, who have used vials
might have a suggestion or two.

If I understand you correctly: When my insulin vial is down to the
'dregs', I just insert as much of the point (insert it as usual and
then pull it back) into the seal that's necessary to make contact with
the inside of the vial, rather than pushing it all the way in. This
way, my discarded vials have only about 10 cc's, at most, remaining in
them. Since there's only one route through which to draw the insulin
out of the vial, I can't think of any way other than the one I use.
If, however, I did not understand you correctly, perhaps someone else
will come through for you.

Yes. I don't know of anyone else to ask. My brother and SIL are very busy
right now. So I can't ask them.

No. It is true. They don't live near me. I don't see them on a regular
basis. And they don't get home until late at night. Not going to get into
why here because I will just be accused once again of telling all my
business or whatever.

Take the damn thing to your local drug store. The pharmacist can show you
how to do what you need to do.

The first time I emptied a bottle as much as it could be, then threw
it out. Yes it still had a little bit left in the bottle. At five
years old I didn't have to ask about it. It wasn't a complicated
issue needing anyone to help me figure it out.

That an adult can't figure that out for themselves is odd.

She doesn't want to figure it out. She just wants to talk about it and
let those who offer suggestions on how to remedy her problem du jour
know why *their* way doesn't work in her case.

DUH - 20 cc = 20 ml - DUHHHHHHH!

I'd gladly take all those vials with 10 cc's remaining in them.
I'm guessing Elissa really meant to say 10 units, though even
that's a lot to throw away. Typically mine have 1 to 2 units of
wasted product, and I'm guessing that's what she really meant.

Thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt, Outsider. It's
distressing that I seem to need that consideration more often these
days. Yes, I really meant 'units' rather than 'cc's', and 10 would,
indeed, be too much to discard. It's actually more like 3-4 for me.

Sure you can show Julie anything. Anything at all. You just need to
accept that whatever you show her will be found lacking and you'll
quickly learn why it won't work for her.

Please don't feel bad. This evening it took me 3 attempts to make a
leakproof brazed high pressure connection between a piece of copper
tubing and a brass fitting. It used to be a 1st attempt thing, or a
total screwup. When I was younger, screwing up didn't seem to matter.
It shouldn't now.

OTOH the price of getting older is much cheaper than the
alternative. :-)

Well it is obvious to me that there would be a problem. Especially if one
were using the 1/2 inch needles! But now my needles are very short so less
of a problem. Dr. just upped my dose of dinner insulin to 20 units. Say
what? I don't take any insulin with dinner. I presume he meant bedtime
insulin. Did that last night. Woke to even high BG. *sigh*

Because it is not just about testing for and recording lows.

But then you would have to actually want to get the BG under control.
