Is this for real, I had some unbreaded pineapple chicken last night,
drained all the sauce although some was left, had a quarter cup of brown
rice and I was 160 at an hour, How could that meal be for real. Is
this the troll or the real sushi, I cant keep up..

Sis the problem with his post is this:

If he can be at 130 after such a meal I say great! The bad part is most
cannot, newbies maybe because they have been diagnosed and after a brief
period are in the honeymoon phase. Most of us went through it, you know,
when we said "wow this ain't soo bad". It takes a while for reality to hit
and the honeymoon to be over. So anyway it is not realistic for someone
with DM2 to eat such a meal and hope to be at normal numbers even after a
bike ride. But Shushi whould have one think any diabetic should be able to
achive this. He does not let the newbie know that it is not realistic. He
is a danger to the newbie he states he is out to help! Because... and he
does not understand this: He is yet a newbie himself....

The meal and the numbers are real.
however i am pretty sure if i eat like this
often i will regain the 65 pounds back and more.
and slowly my blood sugar numbers would go up.
there are so many things that contribute to someone's
blood sugar results after eating.
the bike ride was the hardest and longest ride i took since dx'd.
with out riding that bike for the 30 minutes i am sure my numbers
would have been much higher. as i understand it if my diet
was different my sugar numbers would have been different than
what i had for that meal. i have also just read your blood type effects the
insulin efficiency.

i found this explanation below.

1.. Emphasize foods high in dietary fiber.
A diet with plenty of fiber, which includes vegetables, dried beans, cereals and other whole-grain foods, decreases the amount of
insulin your body needs to keep blood sugars within a normal range.

2.. Keep your diet low in fat.
Insulin becomes less efficient in a high-fat diet. Some fat is needed to help with the absorption of certain vitamins, and to
provide the essential fatty acids necessary for fetal growth. However, you should avoid fatty meats, butter, cream, whole milk, full
fat cheeses and foods such as crackers made with coconut, palm or palm kernel oil. Concentrate on consuming foods that contain
unsaturated or mono-unsaturated fats such as fish, margarine and vegetable oils.

Thanks Ronnie for the explanatgion, Priscilla meds do not prevent me
from getting spiked, i.e., the pineapple chicken, I applaud those that
can do it on diet and exercise alone, I cant.

I didn't say they did. I said he had an advantage by taking them.
Surely you spike less with meds?

Plus he admits that he doesn't test very often.. so it may not be that
he's in ANY kind of good control.

I don't think it's a matter of choice, or anything like that. I don't
think it's something anyone should feel failure about if they can't do
it... I think it's partly a matter of when you are dx'd. If it's
early, you probably have a better chance of avoiding meds... ?

lol first of all just incase anyone thinks Sushi is saying its ok to
eat like this or that i am advocating a General tos - 1 1/2 - 2 cups pork friend rice -

: eggroll -: 2 scallion pan cakes -: 4 oz duck sauce -: 4 steamed pork dumplings -
: 4 shrimp dumplings -: 2 spare ribs.: diet ice tea------- DIET. I AM NOT
I am just sharing my diabetic journey. as i started the post i had no idea
where the numbers would go.

I guess I learned by this post.

If I eat what the ADA considers to be the best food plan
99% of the time. and being i lost 65 lbs so far.
I can go to bbq's, parties, or lol just every once in a while
have a meal like this. as long as i am good the other days.
don't forget exercise- i should have started that already
and gotten off these meds.

For my life style the medications i am taking along with whole grains,
cinnamon and being on a low fat diet. Some the things the
American Diabetes Association says helps increase insulin efficiency.
I am wondering if my life style was more active and I get off the medications
while still having good control. would this meal have produced the
same numbers.
once again because of this meals very hi fat content along with
its massive amounts of carbs - 1 1/2 - 2 cups pork fried rice plus
some other carbs. the ADA and Sushi do not recommend
this to be part of anyone's regular diet - but will i have it
again... you can count on it. however i will not treat myself to it
until i weight 255 lbs that's 10 pounds away. :)
not to mention the treat of being another 10 lbs lighter.
you seen my blood sugar numbers for this meal.
most of my meals are less than half of this.
through trial I have learned any smaller meal
that "I" eat is not a problem for me.
this weak i should be getting my A1c test
lol i hope this meal didn't effect my results :(.

Remember choose the right diet - follow it mostly all of the time - and
will your reward be -
loss of weight?
looking better?
feeling better?
loving life more?
being happier?
Going to parties and enjoying yourself just a little more
while keeping control of your blood sugar.

Talk to a dietitian and see what they have to say.

Linda I was diagnosed in November l999, but I believe I had it for five
years before I knew, I went to an emergency room and was very thirsty,
I drank a can of coke and went to 400. No one said anyting so I didnt
make anything out of it, When I* was diagnosed, I remembered that
incident.

Loretta
P.s. After losing about forty pounds, I went for 8 mgs of amaryl to 2
mgs plus the gluchophage 1500 XR a day.

Priscilla, to tell you the truth I dont know cause I never tested when I
wasnt on meds as I do now, I have gone as high as 225 so if people
without meds spike to 400, I guess the answer is yes, it keeps the
spikes down.

Not really. You seem to think that those of us taking meds are doing it so
we can eat more carbs. I'm taking two meds and I couldn't get away with
eating half of that! I shudder to think of what my numbers would be even at
half!

Depends on what I do in that hour..if I sit in front of the TV and dop
nothing I'll have more of a spike than if I go for a walk or to the
gym...
