Angela has been very sick. Never did find out for sure what she had
although she saw two Drs. She seems much better now although her allergies
are bothering her.

I had what I assumed were really bad allergies. Cottonwood is everywhere
and I always get bad allergies at this time. Although I was reading online
that it is not the cottonwood at all causing the allergies but grass.
Supposedly the cottonwood pollen comes around much earlier in the season.

I have yet to find an allergy med that works for me. Shots made things
worse. Pills gave me side effects or just didn't work. Sprays and drops
give me nosebleeds. Some eye drops make things worse. Others do help a
bit.

I have read in several magazines that Butterbur is good for allergies. I
was also told at one store where I looked for it today that Dr. Oz was
touting it. It's supposed to be good for migraines as well so I bought
some. Hard to find though. Had to go to 5 stores. Only Whole Foods had
it. Also bought some sort of soothing nasal spray (not a medicine) and some
allergy pills that contain nettle.

I took two doses of each of the pills. They did seem to provide some
relief. At least took the edge off of my symptoms.

Then we got home. Then the chilling began. Angela had chilling for several
days but oddly she was no longer chilling and was complaining about it being
hot in here which I know it was.

Much later I began craving mashed potatoes. Got super hungry. Then the
shakes began and I was very sick to my stomach. Didn't seem quite like a
hypo. And when I tested, it was not. BG was 97 which is a tad bit lower
than I want it to be before bed.

I made the mashed potatoes and decided to eat some before I shot my insulin.
I did eat a few bites then realized it was all coming back up. Not the same
as when I get sick from gastroparesis. Oddly enough I don't currently feel
like my allergies are acting up. It seems more like a cold. But now I am
very hot and weak. Gah! I can't win.

Anyway... I suspect the Butterbur is the culprit. Dangit! That stuff was
super expensive. I don't think I'll be taking it again. Now if I could
just get a little of the potatoes to go down and stay down. I need to take
my meds as well and they need to be taken with food. Or at least some of
them do.

We're going to put an end to your problem right now:

DIPHENHYDRAMINE
generic for Benadryl

comes in 25mg tablets (small ones)

Take 2 (two) and it will begin working inside 40 minutes.

Sold under "Equate Allergy Relief" at WalMart

$4.00 US for a bottle of 100 caplets.

Side effects: may make you drowsy. Which is worse? The allergic
problem or getting a little tired from the medicine?

Benadryl is worse! It knocks me out for two days flat. I can't wake up at
all unless perhaps I set 5 alarms. I get dehydrated, my blood sugar gets
out of whack. And then I spend 24 hour feeling like I have a hangover. For
me it's not just a little tired. It's a really, really bad thing!

I have chronic ethmoid sinusitis (according to CT scan), and have been
tortured by it all my life. Ethmoid just means the sinuses in the
frontal area of one's face. I am in hell on earth if I don't take an
antihistamine when an attack comes on. I'll do almost anything to
stop it.

I agree...I've tried Allegra, Claratin, Zyrtec all to no avail. They
do absolutely nothing for me except empty my wallet. If I can think
of anything else that might help, I'll post.

Okay, thanks for bringing my attention to that. I found a very
over-simplified diagram of the sinuses on the WWW and present it here:

HTH everyone.

Thanks. I am pretty sure it is not just allergies but they could be mixed
in there too. My daughter missed 4 days of school last week with a low body
temp., chilling, exhaustion and that I thought was allergies. She saw 2
Drs. The first one diagnosed a sinus infection but I didn't believe this
because she didn't look in her nose or ears or touch her face or anything.
I just said another girl at the dance studio had the same symptoms and a
sinus infection. So this Dr. said she probably had one too!

When a battery of blood tests turned nothing up, the second Dr. said she was
depressed and needed to see a counselor. We both are disputing this but we
will play along and she will see the counselor. Now that I have the same
symptoms, I know something is up.

Luckily my daughter is feeling fine now so this thing seems to last about 5
days.
