Got hit by a piece of malware a couple days ago, and had to get the damage
to that fixed, but in the meantime my wife's computer has been down cause I
shut it down as soon as I realized something was going on funky with my
laptop, and it wouldn't come back up. Bad power supply. Took it apart and
found three swollen electrolytic capacitors (look like little cans, standing
on two wires coming out of the bottom end). Ordered replacement parts from
a major supplier who now has no minimum order, and had them shipped to me
via USPS mail. $6.00 and some-odd cents. They came in today, and I spent
about 45 minutes in my shop putting them into the power supply, then put
that back into the desktop computer. Punched the button, and it came up
like a champ. Damn. Love it when it works out that way. Love it, love it,
love it. Wife was certain I had infected her computer with some kind of
virus, but it was just a bad power supply, which I tried to tell her. Could
have ordered a new PS, for $50.00 or $60.00, but I managed to fix the old
one for about $6.00. Got lucky that it wasn't something more serious than a
couple over-heated caps, but this time that's all it was. (deep breath
out.)

Hope others are doing well. I was crashing this afernoon, cause I missed my
pdoc appt due to falling asleep while I waited for the clock to go round,
but am much better since I fixed something. That always helps...

Pleasant thoughts to all.

Yeah, definetly. Used to love my *job*, which was fixing computers and
their related equipment. sigh Days gone by. Trying to hang onto what I
can at this point, and maybe add to it a little here and there when I can.

Wife still seems convinced that I'm the one who screwed her computer up in
the first place. I shut it down, so when it wouldn't come back up it was my
fault. Forget that it had been having problems with the boot process for a
while, which was why we started leaving it on in the first place. None of
her files were trashed, which she thought they would be. And I fixed
everything with a couple components and about 45 minutes labor at my
*workshop*, not the keyboard. Oh well. Whatever...

Take it easy.
