I had been taking up to 60 mg. of Cymbalta for depression and anxiety
for about 6 months. I believe it helped with depression, but not the
anxiety component. Then, I started experiencing severe night sweats.
I would wrap myself in a bath towel at bedtime, and would need to
change the soaked towel several times during the night. My
psychiatrist suggested I ramp down the Cymbalta, which I did.
Interestingly, the anxiety lessened, but not the night sweats.

Finally, it was decided by my pdoc and I to taper slowly down and come
off Cymbalta completely. I've followed his instructions, and have been
off Cymbalta for two weeks now. The night sweats are not as severe,
but are still problematic. My psychiatrist told me that I should not
be experiencing these sweats by now and that perhaps I should see my
primary care to see if anything else is going on.

I've experienced night sweats with SSRI's in the past, but they have
always stopped when I came off the drug.

Anyone have any comments or suggestions. It would be appreciated. Thanks

Many infections, as well as medications, can cause night sweats, so I agree
with your psychiatrist: See your primary care physician to start working on
diagnosis and treatment.

I got terrible nightsweats and insomnia on Pristiq which is very
similar to cymbalta. So bad I had to stop taking the Pristiq after a
week. After only taking it a week it took about 10 days to stop the
sweats and get to where I could sleep again. Withdrawl from SNRIs is
severe and lengthy. It can take weeks to get back to your baseline.
I'ld give it awhile and see, at least if your doc doesn't have any
useful suggestions.

I don't recall nightsweats on cymbalta but the stuff almost killed me.
I never came so close to killing myself as I did when I was on and
trying to come off cymbalta. The stuff may help some people but for
some it's deadly, horrible stuff, very difficult to stop taking, which
of course, is what they want. I think it's absurd that
non-specialists hand the stuff out like candy without any regard for
the risks involved.
