Several years ago I took a low dose of an anti-depressant medication for
a short period of time and when I went off of it I had permanent muscle
twitching in various parts of my body and face.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

If so, what have you tried to counter this and what has helped?

What was the AD and dosage? The only antidepressant known to be able
to cause tardive dyskinesia is Asendin; is that the drug you were on?

Otherwise, I don't think that any antidepressant has been shown to
cause permanent involuntary movements after discontinuation of the drug.

I took 25mg of Zoloft for about a week. I became very tired and as I
recall feeling tightness in my neck and shoulder area. After going off
the medication, I had muscle twitching in various areas of the right
side of my body and face. Perhaps I have that "Serotonin Syndrome" that
was just discussed in a thread on this newsgroup. If this is the case,
what are the treatments for this?

Depression (manic) is often treated
in part to actively fight this affect
disorder; some aggravating symptoms
are treated with drugs which *do* or
*can* cause muscle twitching, nec
pain, spasms of muscles. Depakote,
mellaril, tegretol are a few.
I have seen many with atypical depressions being treated with Seroquell also
(in m-d it deters paranoia during manias/dysphorias).
Benzodiazepines are used for many
affectual illnesses; however, it is a
help for muscle spasms/twitches and
anxiety as a slow-acting medication
in helping to smooth affect disorders
associated with some depressions.
