The drug is just wonderful, but it is a narcotic, you must be careful with
it. It is time release so it does not zonk you out, however it does have
the potential to cause physical addiction.

The drug has some illegal street uses as well, and to avoid trouble I would
not let many people know you use it. Be cautious with oxy, it is much
better then say codeine, or codeine combo drugs because the time release
allows pain relief with no sedation.

Best of luck!

Sure. I got addicted to Oxycontin (which is VERY addictive). However, I
had as much as I wanted with no limits (don't ask) and went from 20 mg
per day to 160 mg per day (two 80mg pills cut into quarters). And yes, I
know I should not crush or chew the tablets.

When I decided to stop, I told my pdoc (he didn't know) and he gave me a
tapering off schedule of about 3 weeks but I had such extreme flu-like
aches, chills, and nausea, I just decided to shorten it down to one week.
I guess I'd rather get beaten up for a week than slapped around for a
month. Besides, my resolve is pretty short term, like a week or so.

Since you are posting to a Depression group, I assume you suffer from
some type of depression. (I happen to be BiPolar)

Now here's the problem with Oxycontin (or Vicadin); when you take a
narcotic like Oxycontin, it fills your brain with dopamine, which is why
narcotics are so pleasurable. Now the bad part: when your brain is filled
with dopamine, your body tries to regulate itself and stops producing it
naturally and your little 'dopamine producer' stems die off.

When you stop taking the narcotic Oxycontin, you will fall into a deep
depression because you aren't producing dopamine because the little stems
have died off. They will grow back and start producing again, but it will
be between 4 month and a year, depending how long you were on narcotics.

I saw an image of Crack Head Bob's brain (PET Scan, MRI or whatever) upon
quitting and it showing just a few scant bright dots of natural dopamine
production. The second image was taken one year later with bright spots
throughout the natural production area, so they do grow back.

Instead of thinking "I'm taking Oxycontin" try thinking "I'm taking this
narcotic labeled Oxycontin".

Also, when Mr. Tolerance comes calling, the only thing stronger is
morphine / heroin, so be careful.

Good luck!
