I took the class for a lot of reasons. Rather than get into all the
reasons - the main reason was to learn to draw. The instructor set up a
still life and shadows and all and we set to drawing. My completed drawing
was teeny tiny as were a couple of other's non drawers. When asked why they
had these creative answers. Being generally a straightforward person, I
said FEAR made me draw tiny. She didn't get it.
Oh well, at least I know. Hopefully by the time class is over in late June,
I will have relaxed enough to fill the page and I won't have dropped the
course.

You are living proof of James' "The greatest discovery of my generation
is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of
mind."
PS. Have you ever worked in "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain"?
I love that book, love it love it. It taught me that drawing is about
what my eyes see and not about any technique with my hand.
HAVE FUN!!
I heard that was good book. One week, we are suppose to draw everything
upside down. That should be a great learning experience.

I am glad that in this time of such challenges you are doing something
so creative and alive, rather than self-destructive. I don't know that
I could. I am glad your friends here were able to assist you in
getting back on track so you could grow into the strength you are
exhibiting.
Clearly how you 'heard' them is what worked for you. I think we all
have different ways of being 'reached.' To my mind it isn't that there
is a single objective standard or approach that is "correct" (although
'can't say anything nice, don't say anything' is a pretty helpful
axiom) - I think the measure of value of 'correctness' is only as good
as what can be heard. And that is I have to say in terms of my
understanding of how to be 'helpful.'
I hope you enjoy this class. I sort of have a theory that 'anything
worth doing is worth doing badly;' it is so liberating to try new
things for the simple joy of trying them. That motto has helped me get
past the drive to perfectionism that says 'hey, if you can't do a
Millet pastel then NEVER pick up the blasted pastels." PAH !! It is in
the drawing, writing, singing that I feel alive, not in the finished
product.
Have a good night!
