This past week I got two items of bad news:
1. social services sent me a notice of overpayment of
$1155.75 which they play to take out of me at
a rate of 5% of my twice monthly instalment.
However I calculated $641.58 instead for 2010
(unless they did it for both 2009 and 2010) so I
have queried them about it and also let them know
I have been laid off from my part-time
employment from mid-October until April.
All that makes me want to find a job and before
Christmas I did apply for a geophysicist job
with Nalcor, with closing date Jan. 3, but I
haven't heard from them. (I accidentally sent
them the version of my CV that I have on my home
page, so without address and phone number, which
couldn't have helped even though they have my
address and phone number from the online application.
Also they wanted 5 years of oil industry experience.
and I have less than a year though a lot of education.)
2. I heard from my psychiatrist's administrative
assistant and due to illness his office will be
closed for an extended period and patients are
advised to see their family doctors and check
his answering machine in a month for an update
plus watch the paper for a notice. Now I have
two months supply of meds but I have set up an
appointment with my family doctor (the first
since 2005) for Wednesday morning (but we may
have a snowstorm Wednesday) for a physical
checkup and to discuss my psychiatrist and set
up a lithium blood level (I didn't get the
result of the one before Christmas a week after
I dropped to 900 mg lithium carbonate/day). If
the answering machine update in a month is not
promising a reopening of my psychiatrist's office
I will then get my family doctor to refer me to
another psychiatrist, which might take a while.
But luckily my mental health is fairly good these
days, though I tend to be more eccentric online than
in my dealings with other people offline.
So now I'm hoping that the old adage that bad news
comes in threes doesn't apply in this case (and e.g.
that my family doctor won't find anything seriously
wrong with me physically, for a number three).
