root canal or implant

Hi,

I have a crown that got some decay under it, and it also has
an abscess revealed by xray, but is causing no pain. They want to do
an implant
instead of a root canal, because they say not enough tooth
is left. Does that sound reasonable? Should I get a second
opinion? I would also have to get some bone powder and wait
6 months for it to grow before getting the post.
